With the GHL regular season quickly nearing an end, the Cleveland Barons have not only clinched the President’s trophy but are also on the verge of breaking the all time points record set by the Boston Bears just last season. Sitting at 126 points with 4 games remaining, the Bears 127 point mark from a year ago is not just in jeopardy but almost guaranteed to be surpassed by the Barons as early as tonight’s game at home against Quebec. The Barons have torn through the league this season, defeated just 9 times, which is 7 less losses than the next best team in that category, the Halifax Huskies. While Cleveland and Halifax are assured of their playoff berths, the remainder of the post-season invitees are also becoming very clear. The only team currently not in the playoffs that has not been officially eliminated is Washington. The Federals currently have 72 points with 4 games remaining and sit 5 points behind Colorado in the Wales conference, however, catching the Pioneers is their only chance of making the post-season. The other 14 teams on the outside looking in will remain out of the playoff picture this season. In the divisional battles, the Patrick division is the most interesting. Seattle is one point away from clinching the division but Edmonton, Detroit and Colorado are all lined up behind them with just 2 points separating the 3 teams, two of which will likely play each other while the other will quite possibly land in the final wild card spot and draw Cleveland. This, of course brings us to the Adams division. The Barons win this division hands down with Hamilton and Alaska locked into a divisional match-up with home ice to be determined as the Polar Bears trail the Tigers by a single point. Pittsburgh falls into a likely preferable first round cross-over draw vs. Seattle, assuming they fend off the loser of the Patrick divisional battle and maintain the higher wild card spot. If the playoffs started today, the Wales conference would line up as follows:
Adams Division
Colorado vs. Cleveland
Alaska vs. Hamilton
Patrick Division
Pittsburgh vs. Seattle
Detroit vs. Edmonton
Over in the Campbell, the waters could be considered a little muddier. The 8 teams that will participate in the post-season are confirmed. 5 of those teams will come from the Smythe division, 4 of which have over 100 points, while Montreal is only 4 points away from reaching the century mark as well. In the Norris, New Jersey is one point from clinching the division while Cornwall and Philadelphia would match-up in the divisional spot, assuming the Hawks can manage to get at least a tie in their final 5 games. If the playoffs started today:
Smythe Division
Montreal vs. Halifax
Quebec vs. Boston
Norris Division
Adirondack vs. New Jersey
Philadelphia vs. Cornwall

If I make it, I’m going to get absolutely worked. Your best chance is to either pass Edmonton or Detroit to get into the divisional battle. You can also still catch Pittsburgh and get the higher wild card but that's a little less likely as they are currently 4 points ahead of you with a game in hand. |

If I make it, I’m going to get absolutely worked. Your best chance is to either pass Edmonton or Detroit to get into the divisional battle. You can also still catch Pittsburgh and get the higher wild card but that's a little less likely as they are currently 4 points ahead of you with a game in hand. I've won the President's Trophy twice and got knocked out in either the first or second round. History is on your side. |

I wouldn't want to draw Cleveland in the first round either, 130 point season and those two banners perched over your icon make for a pretty intimidating first round match-up

If Boston wins and Halifax loses then the two are tied for first. And, if Colorado wins and Edmonton loses then they're tied for 3rd in the Patrick. I don't know how the tiebreakers shake out.

Tie-Breaking Procedure
If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:
The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
The greater number of games won, excluding games won in the Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column.
The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season. NOTE: In standings a victory in a shootout counts as one goal for, while a shootout loss counts as one goal against.

Edmonton could drop as far as the final wild card or jump as high as 2nd to start the first round on home ice vs. Detroit. If Edmonton beats St. Paul and Detroit loses to Cleveland, Edmonton would tie Detroit with 83 points and 34 wins and they hold the season series tiebreaker

Ok I hate to beat a dead horse but what the hell ......there will be a few teams in the playoffs that .... I would think now is the time they NEED to post there lineups !!!
