So the only drama left in the regular season is who will be filling the last 3 slots in the Campbell and who will finish first in the Norris. Philly, Cornwall, Hartford and Quebec will be playing musical chairs to see who gets left out. New York and Suffolk will determine who gets the top seed in the Norris division. The Quebec - Philly game on Saturday could well be the determining factor as to who gets the last spot. The wife and I will be out or I would have dusted off the DVR program a little earlier and streamed this game.

I was torn between bowing out so I could rest a bunch of players going into the playoffs and pushing for the top seed...my competitive spirit wouldn't allow me to just let Suffolk walk into the #2 seed, he's gonna have to earn it. Fingers crossed we don't see any serious injuries in the final two games.

I thought the same thing Scott. A couple weeks ago, I realized, everyone in our division was going to have to suit up their regulars right to the very end. It's a pretty exciting finish for the Norris!

In true Philly form I manage to blow a 4 goal lead against a team that, at least this year, I should have beaten.
4 asses and only 3 chairs. The weekend will tell the tale.

Chris wins the gold star for noting this first. The next years projected team strength section of the page is undergoing some work.
In the past this was a very very general look at how teams were setup for the following year. The only things that were taken into account was team offense (which was more a less a pts per game average for all of the players on a team who arent going to be UFAs the next year) and a similar metric for how the goalies were doing taking into account both GAA and Save Pct.
My plan is to add a few more metrics to help these projections be a little more accurate. With that in mind I have plans to add 3 additional calculations.
1) Defense: This is a tough nut to crack given the way the player card generator relies heavily on stats that are not captured in our year to date stats. These really need the full final season stat breakdown to get an accurate evaluation of a teams defensive acumen but I was thinking of at least adding something related to players plus minus to at least add a bit of flavor from this standpoint
2) Cap Room: This is what was added this morning. Basically it measures a teams cap space next year and compares it to all of the other teams via a team average. The more cap space you have in relation to the other teams the better positioned you are (in theory) to land some impactful UFAs.
3) Draft Assets: Similar to cap room above I think we should factor in how a team is positioned with draft picks. More high end picks allow for the drafting of higher end talent (again in theory) or provide the necessary league capital to trade in order to improve your team.
With this in mind please know that this is a projected report only and has zero impact on any current or future player cards or the engine (simulation) at all.

Quebec vs Philly tomorrow night. Quebec wins and they’re in. Depending on how Cornwall and Hartford do it could come down to tie breakers. I don’t know the tie breakers so I’m not sure if Quebec has a chance to get in with a tie.

What are the tiebreakers, and is it different for a 3-way tie (still a possibility)?

Couldn’t afford to sit Rantanen, get him back for a game and lose him again for several weeks.

The playoffs kickoff tomorrow night. If there is a particular game or series people want to see let me know here. I think last year that Brian, Scotty, Phil watched most if not all of the games.
Also, I am also going to be experimenting with adding a zoom call to the feed as well. That way we can virtually gather to comment on the game in real time. I will need to do some testing with this prior to trying it live but figured it might be a cool way for us to interact while watching the game. If you are interested in helping to test this, let me know as well.
