They are no longer on my team, cut gone. Is there a problem? But yeah you guys caught me I’m trying to stock pile goalies, after 10 years of being a league member I finally figured it out!
What is the end result here with some of you owners who want blood for teams that make a mistake ?
We don’t even have a league running at 100% ownership and maybe there’s a reason why. Everyone needs to stop, take a breath and not be such dicks.
How about we look to solve the problem instead of immediately looking to punish with forced trades and loss of draft picks. Let’s find a solution so we can resolve this issue moving forward.
I suggest if possible that some sort of player limit at each position is worked into the system. That would automatically not allow a team attempting to add said player at position.
Guys
Be more creative with how you want to see things done in this league.

Well then just cut the 6th Cinci goalie.
Advisory council not needed.

I think there was only one owner who wanted blood, with the rest just not wanting to see a team be able to acquire another asset in a trade to make up for making a mistake. Personally, as long as it doesn't happen every year with the same team, I don't think there should be a penalty, and the last goalie(s) in should be the ones cut.

The big takeaway is to have this scenario clearly spelled out in the rule book, which it is not.

The big takeaway is to have this scenario clearly spelled out in the rule book, which it is not. actually it is in the 2nd paragraph... Roster Size
Each team must have a minimum of 45 players and a maximum of 50 players in their organization during the regular season and playoffs. These limits include both players who are on minor league contracts as well as major league contracts but does not include Prospects (discussed later). Each franchise must also maintain 5 carded goalies during this time frame as well. The big takeaway is that if time were unlimited, I could add code that would prohibit bidding on goalies whenever you already have a total of 5 goalies bid on or on the roster. I asked that guys not bid on more goalies than would put them over the goalie count but guys may not have seen the post or just made a mistake. Another issue coming up is contract assignment. There are 3 players whose owners needed FPs to secure their services for this year. That means they can only be signed for 1 year terms this year. These players are: Martinook - Toronto vanRiemsdyk T - Toronto Sissons - Philadelphia Ideally code would limit the max years signed but I think this is still up to the owners to self police when they are making their decisions. I think we have had cases in the past where owners mistakenly signed for longer than 1 year where it was identified after the fact and the contract was fixed on the backend to reflect the correct term and savings from said term. Once we finish the system conversion at work I am going to retire. That will be as early as February. Once retired, I will have more time to add some of these extra features to the engine/web interfaces.

It's only half spelled out. The penalty needs added

It's only half spelled out. The penalty needs added I beg to differ, The rulebook is not a legal document where every possible occurrence needs to be spelled out and all of the penalties identified as well. There are certain issues or guidlelines that should be followed (unless a mistake is made). These include roster size and being under the cap at the start of the season. I don't think it is a big ask to request owners operate within league guidelines. On another note, as I was doing the testing on Philly this AM I noted that it looks like I already added the code to handle guys that were bid on and FPs were needed to retain. I only had the option of signing Sissons for 1 year. Dan, please make sure your two guys are in the same boat.

So. By telling Dan to check contracts...does that mean the contract assignment toggle is activated somewhere?

The definition of a rule book is to be all inclusive and covering every single thing.

So. By telling Dan to check contracts...does that mean the contract assignment toggle is activated somewhere? "Contract assignment toggle"? I have no idea what that means. My note to Dan means that it appears that I had added the code prior to make sure that guys who need FP to retain a player can only sign them for 1 year. Since he and I are the only ones who have player(s) in this situation, I asked him to make sure it is working as expected. Regarding you statement that the rule book should cover every possibility under the sun, you are unsurprisingly wrong.

I think the one that wasn't coded was guys coming off of bridge contracts can only be signed for additional 4 years instead of 6. I'll confirm when the contract page is up. I have Charlie Lindgren coming of a bridge this year.

I thought players coming off bridge deals could be signed to however many years. (Edit: looks like I missed this in the rule book)
I thought the 4 year max was guys who were signed to UFA extensions.

From the rule book:
Bridge Option
GM’s have two options for resigning players coming off of their 3 year entry level contract (ELC).
1) They can realize a 25% discount of their asking price, or highest bid price and sign the player as they wish for up to 6 years. Players will still need to have their salaries raised if needed in order to meet minimum salary for number of years signed. At the end of this contract the player will become a UFA.
2)They can bridge the player. This means that they will only receive a 10% savings on asking price/highest bid and the first part of the bridge is a fixed length of 2 years. At the end of 2 years the players will become RFAs again (and can be bid on by other teams). If the GM wants to resign the player after 2 years, he can do so again with only the 10% savings and contract term will be for 1-4 years. After this, they will become UFAs.
