The problem is that our teams are only as good as our cards allow us to be. Any type of sim tournament with non playoff teams will result in better teams winning. That screws the losing owners over twice. I cant see how the 15th place team would beat the team who finished ninth because of how our league is run through card rankings.
Plus its subjective to state that the last place team "tanked" I finished with 47 points the year before not because my team tanked but because my cards were god awful. I dont see (If I was in that situation again) how any sim tournament would help that type of team improve if they werent able to gain a top 5 pick.
Im against it, lets not fix what really isnt broken.

Huh? That's a false dichotomy Phil if I ever heard one. We are not going to do away with the crystal ball effect, and having a draft order that is different from what the NHL does not warrant comments about Dungeons and Dragons, or other non-sequiters.
We don't have to slavishly imitate the NHL draft. A lottery system is better than the Suffolk system, I agree. But if you reward competitiveness, you get competitiveness. If you reward losing, you get tanking. If you like tanking, and if you think what Suffolk did is realistic hockey, then proceed.
This is really rather simple behaviorism. I simply happen to prefer a league where teams that win 12 total games fielding minor league talent and manipulating their roster don't get the first pick. The defending champions were not the worst organization in the league, they were the best. They played the system shrewdly. (The "Hey, I will trade some of my players for next year to get some of your players for this year" deals aren't real NHL trades, as they are based on crystal ball effect PLUS rewarding tanking).

Matt-Syracuse, Suffolk did not tank last season! Moreover, I attempted to get a goalie before the season even began, long before... You can ask Owen, Pat-Wilmington, All of Chicago's current and previous owners, and the illustrious Mr THB!!!!
I simply could not come to an agreement with any manager on landing a goalie! Either my personal differences on trades or whether other GMs wanted to help make the defending champs stronger, or for whatever reason, a deal could not get done!
Also, I acquired Monctons 1st rd Pk ( became 9th overall ) before the season was a week old and before he was a shell of a team AND after he had already traded it to another team. I also acquired Detroits 1st rd Pk ( 2nd overall ) during the previous season on a gentlemans handshake from Detroit who desperately wanted and needed offense and HE wanted Glencross, whom had a worthy card.
My own first rd Pk turned out to be great because I finished 26 overall NOT from tanking, but because I had good players turn into mediocre ones, injuries to my best defenseman and my other D men, a starting goalie with a 26 rating...every game I would outshoot opponents 30 to 22 but lose 4 to 2....I always iced my best players on the top lines. I only dressed my backup goalie against all odds ONCE, and Sal sent me a PM accusing me of shady play and questioning why I was tanking?! But when I told him I did it to make Neuvirrh stronger for the next 3 games against teams I could possibly beat and played my weak goalie against a team that I had very little chance of winning against...Not that it's his business!!! But I ended up winning that game against that playoff bound team with my worse goalie anyhow.
Fact is, I made trades for picks because I couldn't offer/didn't want to offer my future away, because I knew my season was doomed because of goaltending!!!! Turns out I made very good trades by luck!
I traded away Monctons 1st to Colorado expecting that pick to be the #1, but it dropped to ninth!!!! Ask Matt, I felt horrible for him!!!! That trade was prior to the lottery too!
So, keep the "tanked" accusations off of Suffolk's branding!!!
Furthermore, I don't like your proposition for the draft change either, I feel the same as most do and agree with St Paul's explanation above. The worst team in the league last season ( Moncton ) would never in a million tries win the tourney process you plan, and he didn't tank either!!! Yet, his team definitely would be deserved of the 1st overall pick !
Edited because Iphone spell check is a pain in the balls...

By design Franchise points have been implemented to reward the teams for doing well and to avoid tanking. While I see both sides of the issue we will move forward as we had planned on doing after this last draft with a lottery to determine first pick and no team falling farther down the ladder than one spot.

I dunno from boasting or not. Dunno from Conference pride either.
All I know is that I took a perennial cellar dweller loser team, a la Shittsburgh and shot them not only UP in the standings but into the playoffs in UNDER one year through only line up managment.
Let me say that again....ONLY lineup management.
No trades. Glennis made one, and I really wish he didn't because the result would have been the same = playoffs.
So if you have been an active owner for 1 to 2 years and can't even find the hair around the hole and make the show....well then....
