What does it mean by win? Is it just a cap on how often a team picks #1, or a cap on how often a team can move up due to lottery results?

And also, does that affect traded picks? If one team gets the 1st pick via a pick originally belonging elsewhere, how does that come into play?

I believe how often they can 'win' the lottery... and as to the 2nd question, it wouldn't affect anything unless the teams making the trade added conditions implying the pick couldn't be a lottery pick which doesn't affect the GHL in any way because we don't have the rights to our 2022 picks yet. Also, just a note, I'm only posting this to show what the NHL is changing. I'm not sure how it affects our lottery since we just assign the teams based on final standings and match them to the NHL team which finished in the same position.

Thanks for posting Scotty. I would think that the cannot win more than twice in a 5 year penalty would be only applicable to the actual draft asset. Meaning if the Islanders held New Jerseys first pick then that couldn't be a first this year because NJ has won the lottery 2 of the last 5 years. Now lets say NJ owned lottery eligible Philly's first pick next year they could get number one overall again if the Flyers were the lottery winner.

So it looks like we will need to hold our own draft lottery again this year. I just read the following online:
The league outlined the 2021 NHL Draft Lottery odds for 16 teams, including the Arizona Coyotes, who will forfeit their 2021 first-rounder. There will be two draws: the first for the top pick, and then the second for No. 2 overall. If the Coyotes win either one of those draws, then there will be a redraw.

I just read the following article that leads me to believe that we might be able to use the NHL results. They key is if the public will be notified if either the 1st or 2nd pick needed to be redrawn. If we are not 100% certain, we will need to use our own model. media.nhl.com/public/news/14948

well it was pretty fun last year It was. We would do the same and broadcast live via Twitch. We could also tweak ours to only draw 2 cards for the 2nd and 1st over all picks. The rest could fall to team finishing order like the NHL does. We could also draw all the cards like we did last year starting with pick 16 and working backwards.
