The New York Americans have announced that they have dealt forward Torrey Mitchell and minor league goalie Nathan Lawson to Toronto in exchange for Smithtown native Chris Higgins. Amerks GM Scott Jones had this to say regarding the deal."It's great to get a hometown guy in the line-up, I know the fans will welcome Chris in, being from so close to here, these cities love their hometown guys and Chris is a good hockey player so we're excited for him to get in here. We hope to have him Saturday night for the Pittsburgh game, when I talked to Chris this morning, there was a customs issue that needs to be cleared up, which is often the case when these guys have to come across the border." New York hopes Higgins can add some secondary scoring which has plagued the Amerks this season.

It took Chris Higgins two games with the New York Americans to get acclimated with his new teammates. Higgins was placed on the #1 unit tonight with Elias and Kessel and scored both Amerks goals in a 2-2 draw with the visiting Monarchs. Manchester out shot New York 37-27 but Vokoun turned aside 35 of those Monarch shots to preserve the tie. Unfortunately the Amerks seem to be unable to turn those into wins this season, as they have drawn even 14 times.
"We have to find a way to get some wins" Said GM Jones after the game, "It's great to get the point but at this stage we need two, and the schedule isn't going to get any easier."
The Amerks host Hershey on Saturday and New Jersey on Sunday, Hershey is currently sitting 1st in the Norris division and New Jersey is in fifth in the Conference with 52 points.
"We have to concentrate on Hershey right now, that one is the bigger game, obviously, because their in our division, but every game is big from here on out." said Jones
The Amerks organization definitely expected bigger things this season after finishing 4 points out of the playoff picture last season. If the Amerks can't find a way to secure a playoff position, look for Jones to become a big seller at this years trade deadline.

Chris Higgins is stealing the spotlight on Broadway! Higgins has 6 points in 4 games played with the Amerks tallying 4 goals and 2 assists in 3 games as he didn't put up any points in his 1st game after being acquired from Toronto.
"This is exactly what I was looking to get. I think Chris is very comfortable here, being home, and his play is reflecting his great attitude." Said GM Jones of Higgins' play after he tallied 2 goals just 46 seconds apart in the 2nd period of last nights victory over the New Jersey Osprey.
The Amerks have now collected points in their last 5 games going 2-0-3 but could really find themselves in a great position if they could find a way to secure those extra points. The Amerks have 15 ties this season, 2nd in the the FHL only to Hershey, who currently leads the Norris division. The Bars erased a 3-0 deficit on Saturday night in New York to take away a point in the division that New York could really have used.
