Tomas Vokoun and Ilya Bryzgalov both turned away 34 shots in Philadelphia tonight and Erik Cole was the only player who found a way to solve either net minder. Cole found the back of the net 9 minutes into the games opening stanza in what would prove to be a showcase of saves. Philly picks up 2 huge points in the standings to hold onto the 8th seed in the Campbell conference as the two teams entered the night each with 45 points.
"That was a big game to let get away, our centers were winning draws and we had a couple of good looks. Sully took that high sticking call with about 6 minutes to go but we just couldn't solve Bryz, he was big in the net and we just couldn't find a hole. Both of them played well tonight and on nights like this, it only takes one good bounce and that went their way tonight."Said Amerks GM Scott Jones after the game.
When asked about Chris Higgins injury, he had this to say. "Ya, it looks like he's going to be out for a couple of weeks here, not good timing the way he's been going for us, I think you guys just did a piece on him a few days ago. He had points in 5 straight games going and a couple of 2 point efforts in that stretch, just bad timing, but luckily, with the all star break coming, he's only looking at missing a handful of games."
Speaking of injuries, Barrett Jackman has been activated off the IR and is expected to be in the line-up Wednesday night vs. Halifax and Steven Reinprecht, who has only played in 9 games this season and was acquired by the Amerks in November from Halifax, has been practicing with the team and is expected to be in the line-up very soon according to management.
