Glenn, Anything new, engine-wise for the upcoming season ? Glad you asked Philly me lad. Yes, I spent a good part of the weekend reworking the logic for guys taking the occasional look over their shoulder during play. This is something that the lower grit players can have happen to them on occasion especially when playing a "Tough" team and without having much in the way in team toughness or having a tough guy riding shotgun with the lower grit players. Also, I will be adding some ratings to the game page that will rate 4 team variables (Offense, Defense, Skill [Shoot/ShootPct/Pass for the most part) and Toughness). This will give you a general idea of how the teams stack up. No need to worry necessarily GM's of Nancy boy teams. This doesn't mean that your team is going to be running scared from the drop of the puck but as intimidation does play a part in the NHL, it plays a part in the FHL as well. I expanded the games in progress sheet to show as many as 16 (I know, 15 is the max we could have at present but F-it, we are ready for expansion) simultaneous games. This is the item I had added for the playoffs last year but last years version was limited to 4 games a night. Also, I have started working on a weekly power rankings tool which will rate all 30 teams based on their recent game performances. It will take into account competition played as well as wins, losses and ties.

Oh, I almost forgot, this past weekend I also incorporated 1/2 of Ian's work in giving some solid ratings to fighters. Ian did the research and extracted data to list the full number of fights a player had in the NHL last year. These numbers were massaged and used to arrive at new fighting values that are grounded in hard numbers. These numbers were applied to all of the 894 NHLers from last year. the AHL ratings are derived from AHL stats.
The new ratings are based on minutes played between fights and are solid.
Thanks Ian for the assist.

Just wondering how Grit/Toughness is measured...just an example where it seems off, Crosby is a 7 grit and Chara is a 4. Does anyone here really believe Crosby is 75% tougher than Chara?

I think you may have answered your own question?! Grit does not equal Toughness, but they are separate entities, I believe... At least, I don't think Grit and Toughness are the same. Glenn? ?? Grit - Toughness. Different or Same?

Crosby would have some decent grit IMO....maybe not a 7...more like a 6.....he IS hard to play against. How about all those cheap shot hacks to Giroux - broke his wrist !
Chara is tough and can hit, fight, and scrap....I would up his grit to a 5 or 6.
Ultimate Grit - Talbot, laperiere....willing to do ANYTHING to win....they should both be 8-9, at least.
