Sal has echoed my sentiments, as well as those of some of our other GM's. Although, I am not personally calling out any GM for past or current infractions of the rules; I do feel it is important that we erase the gray areas and enforce the rules from this point on. Before the season ends!
All teams need to be compliant. It will be that much easier going forward, consider the gas station cut thru closed and protected with video surveillance.

I was in this position last season, the minor leaguers that do not have a card can not be retained. Chalk up another advantage to the draft picks Dane. Scott is correct. That is one of the big differences between the drafted prospects and minor league signees. If you would have signed him to a pro contract at the start of this year, you would have had the option of retaining him as any other pro contracted player could be retained. Which player are you referring to? If he played in the NHL/AHL last year, why wouldn't he get some games this year, I am guessing it is a junior kid who came up for a cup of coffee last year. If so, what makes you feel he won't get the same cup this year? Found glenns answer about minor leaguers being retained.

We should fix this...it ain't realistic.
NHL teams don't wave bye bye to young players no matter where they play....they exercise the option of signing em or not. The players don't disappear on their own...

And I will sign them....just make sure we get the chance.
The small fish start out in the AHL and then GET signed if we want to keep them.

You have a chance every time you pick a player up to sign him for as long as you want to (pro or minor league contract). If you miss out on signing a guy you wish you would have signed to a pro contract well that just goes to show you that hindsight is 20-20.

What's the ruling on Austin Watson ? Specifically

I see Watson was signed to 800k so there was no need to worry about him in the first place, wasn't on a minor league deal.

I see Watson was signed to 800k so there was no need to worry about him in the first place, wasn't on a minor league deal. Glenn just 'rounded him up' and placed him on my team page. Until now, I forgot just how much I signed him for - I knew it wasn't minor league chump change though.I'm still unclear as to what happened, but I'll try to take a crack at it. 1. I signed him to 800K ? Had to be over 800K for a multi-year signing bonus right ? 2. His contract length has to be THREE (03) years, correct ? 3. He was signed two years ago 2nd FHL season - 2011/2012 with an 'AHL' card only. 4. He was sent to juniors 2012/2013 and had no AHL/NHL games, and hence, no FHL card. He then dropped off the radar. 5. Since an @ 800K contract maxes out at a THREE year cap, I'm pretty sure I would have taken advantage of that, as I normally do, especially since this young man was a first round NHL pick. I think he would still be in the third year of his contract, this FHL year -2013/2014. I realize this is hard and Glenn doesn't have all the nessa support coding to handle this, but I think it's better to cross these bridges now (sooner) so we can advance the league.

Phil, I was home working on the cards all day but I didn't do anything to make him appear today. He might be showing up because I added the RFA table back in for each team. I need to see where the 800k number is coming from in his history because according to the contracts table he was signed for 2 years in 2011 for 650,000. He had a adjusted contract amount of $633,750 which is in line with the 2 year signing (2.5% savings). He is a RFA. If he would have been a draft pick, he would have been eligible for prospect status which would defer the years before his contract starts. See McIlrath or Baerchi on my team for example. This is another reason that the drafted players have more value than the guys signed via FA. You will have the option of signing him to another contract contingent to his asking price and offers from other teams but this will be his second and he will be a UFA after that contract period expires.

ok....That is acceptable. But I'm here to tell ya...young master Austin WAS absent without leave.
I heard tell he was hanging out in a rented RV with Lindros who was coaching him on how to fake a ruptured lung to get more money.
He was not on my team page.
I'll throw some more money at the boy....he projects to only be a 'two way' player...hands aren't that great, but eh.

what's this about contract deferment ?
"If a players does not play 20 professional games (NHL+AHL) in a season their contracts are deferred for that year".

We have a rulebook available stickied to the top of this forum. I believe that this rule does need to be added. I will begin review of what we have compiled and forward anything I find that is not in there or has been changed to Glenn for update.

what's this about contract deferment ? "If a players does not play 20 professional games (NHL+AHL) in a season their contracts are deferred for that year". Deferment applies only to players drafted and not players signed via free agency. It also occurred to me the reason the 800k was showing up on the player card page. To retroactively build this player tracking feature I needed to use the bids table. So you bid 800k on him and the next highest bid was 500k meaning that you won him with 650k. This and the applying you 2.5% savings for signing him for 2 years brought his final salary to what was displayed in the contracts table.
