and here's one that people are overlooking....PLAY a few games before throwing people away and making trades. SEE whatcha got before taking the broom out.

Ugh, bushleague. I think I'm just gonna take one out of the Syracuse/Quebec playbook, avoid the forum and let you all roll in the filth you're slinging at each other this season. See y'all around the deadline.

I think Joe is without a doubt making the most sense here. I for one don't want to see new guys leave but I'm also not going to cater to them and make trading easy for them. Play it out, have fun with the league and learn as you go. As always, my door is open to any questions and will remain so. The only stupid question is the one that's never asked. I'm pretty sure everyone here is pretty hockey savvy or else you wouldn't be here. This is far and away the best hockey league I've ever been a part of and if given a fair shake I think most will see it the same way. Don't let trade negotiations get the best of you. I've been here since the start and there are managers that it's tough to work deals with for me, most times I find it's more a case that we just share value in the same players and can't come to an agreement and quite honestly there is nothing wrong with that. I may be a little tough to work a deal with myself, but there is nothing wrong with saying no to a trade offer and moving on.

Boys,
There are rules/processes in place to help the new guys get their sea legs under them. We allow an unlimited number of drops and they get an opportunity to take a mulligan on transactions (trades/waives/contracts extensions). The fact that they can jettison their poor contracts is a large advantage for them. It would be best if GMs didn't even make trades prior to understanding how the engine works and therefore the value of the cards. Short of this happening though, we do have the mulligan safety net.
In regards to half cost franchise point trades I am not sure that this is the way to go. The one thing the league wants to do is reign in the crazy amounts of trades that are made to closer simulate the NHL. Therefore, this will not happen this year at least.
Also, Matt is correct. Some of the comments thrown around here the past week have been questionable. I do not think the newer players are whining by asking that some consideration be made for some additional rule changes however it is my opinion that they are getting enough of a helping hand with the bullet points above.
I do appreciate the veteran GMs offering themselves as a sounding board for the new guys to bounce any questions off of and I would highly suggest the newer guys taking them up on their offer.
Glenn

Can one of you administrators "Delete" this post in its entirety??? I just read through it, and there is nothing offered in the way of help regarding to FP's. Tony-Adk's first comment here, is the closest to any sort of help. That's about it. All the other filler material was Sal vs All...just wasted breathe.
PS...I thought someone had previously mentioned a cleansing of the forum for stale, outdated, irrelevant posts? I would be glad to scour the forum to rid it of nonsense. Would probably be a two person job!

Know what? I was a new GM last year. I think the way things are set up are good. I have voiced some opinions about being a bottom dweller and building a team and received fair feed back.
I think there are going to be different ways of achieving what you want. You can either rebuild with prospects or you can rebuild with guys with good cards based on their seasons play. I have noticed that stamina makes a big difference. I had a ton of injuries last year because my team sorely lacked in stamina.
I think it is possible to build up your team if you are willing to put in the time. I have had many GMS offer advice. Some I took and others not as much. I have a view in my head of how I want to rebuild and I think my team is moving in the right direction. My minors last year were not very good. I am slowly trying to build up some good young guys.
Note that not everyone agrees with this strategy and I think that is what makes the league work. There are all different kinds of GMS and strategies. You have to figure out as much as you can and go with your strategy.
The biggest key I think is seeing the league in action and what stats mean what. I am not saying I have it down pat but I can say I am in a better place now than I was a year ago.
I am thankful to be a part of this league. Glenn does a great job and look forward to building into a powerhouse team.

One note Alex, stamina relates to how much time a player can spend on the ice per game, not his health, fortitude relates to his health.
Another note, your strategy sounds very good to me!

Trading picks cost one FP per pick or is it based on round?
In any event... ring them up! There's about four teams that should already be close to zero FP for the half year.

If I remember correctly, picks and RFA rights cost nothing.
