I was messing around in excel this morning and think I found a few formulas I could use to match player names/positions with THN ID. Glenn, I'm assuming you need the THN ID and player positions on the same line in a spreadsheet? When the regular season ends, if you want to send me your master list with all the player names and their THN ID, I would be happy to match positions with each player - I don't think it should take me more than an hour or two. Once I copy every team's roster from THN to excel, I would just need to separate the text to multiple columns, switch the names to Last, First and then use a vlookup with the 2 lists of names to grab the positions. This obviously wouldn't work for anyone who does not show on a THN roster or has a slightly different name in your list than on THN. However, I doubt anyone is too concerned with the AHL positions right away and the name issues shouldn't take too long. I figure this would get a good 90%+ of the usable cards out of the way in one shot and I can go back and clear the other issues up over the following weeks. Thanks Ian. I have automated getting the positions from the website. I think what throws some people off is that they can be updated after the time I grab them and they wonder why they are different. Remember, these come from either the roster or player profile page ( I would need to look to be sure) and not from gamestats.

We should have a drop-dead date when these positions are scraped then...so we are all on the same page and there is no more wondering.
The last day of the regular season makes sense ? Then we would get 'true-er' positions and maybe not 'playoff' positions.

Why use playoff positions if we don't use playoff stats?

I know how we get the positions. I think we need to pull them maybe a few times in a season.
Lets use Saad as am example. He played LW C RW at some point last season that was on the roster page for him. And we only have LW.
I know I'm nit picking but I think we need to twink it a little so team get the players able to play what they played last year.

greytowergames.com/PlayerCardsNew.aspxGo there and use the drop down to select a player and see their card. Those are the correct positions for them for this upcoming season, the ones on your team page are based off last season. Saad is a LW/RW. As far as him being a C, THN must not have had that listed when the season ended because I copied all my players positions on the last night of the regular season and Glenn's matched perfectly.

Ya that's why I suggest do it more that once at the end of the season. It changes.

THN is pretty good about leaving them there all year. I'm pretty sure Taylor Hall only played C in the beginning of the season and he is listed as a LW/C. I also can't find anything about Saad playing C this year other than in the preseason. I don't really follow the Hawks so I could be wrong, but I see a lot of articles from Sep 2013 saying the Saad experiment at center is over

They did it in the beginning of the season and during some of the later games they tried it again. But during the season he had LW/C next to his name on the roster page.

The massive 'scraping' will occur soon gents. Cornwall finds itself with only TWO dedicated left wingers and 7 right wingers.
Check yer...rosters.

The great scrappage occurred at the beginning of May.

Do you use the player profiles on the Hockey News or the team rosters? I feel like it's the rosters but I just want to double check.
