Just curious if A bid is placed on an RFA that takes them over the cap do they automatically have to take the compensation or can they retain then worry about losing cap after?

Only saying it because if someone signs over the cap and can't trade it away it'll be too late to pick up the player the league chose to drop in UFA

You should have until opening night to get cap in order

But opening night would be too late for other teams to pick up the guy the league takes away which is why I asked

Well I'm sure there is deadline for compliance

Just like the NHL, the GHL allows for teams to be over the CAP until just before the season starts.
I forget the exact amount....10% or 15% comes to mind...

Right essentially my question was once Glenn gives us the added amount to our cap if someone bids so the signing team is over that do They get the player without the chance to resign from the other team
I guess they'd have 24 hours to dump cap though as you don't decide right away

The website will limit teams so they cannot make a bid that would cause them to exceed their cap. Cap will be an extra 5% or roughly 3.5M before we start RFA.

I believe he's asking about retaining a player. Let's say I have $1 million in cap space open and an owner puts in a $5 million offer on my player. I'm assuming my only option (besides shedding salary) is to lose the player and take the compensation.

I'm honestly not trying to snipe an RFA but I mean if the situation arises where I can get one cheap and they can't afford him I might

But I value picks too much at this points

You can match to go above the cap but you need to make trades and shed cap prior to the start of the season. It also means that once you exceed your cap, you will not be allowed to bid on any free agents (RFA or UFA) until down below 105% of cap

This is mostly what I'm confused with, say someone is 3 mil over the cap cause all RFAs bid up but they don't think compensation warrents it, they're out of buyouts and can't trade the cap (because they don't want to lose them for less than they're presumably worth) So leagues steps in and drops players(however that is determined) does that mean those league dropped players never hit UFA and thus nobody can try and sign them.
Also I guess how is that determined if someone isn't cap compliant by start of the season does the league just drop their highest paid guy to UFA or what?
