OK, I re-worked the drafting code to draft all new players and ran that last night for the 44-45 season draft. We had determined the order for this years draft last summer via the card draw but had not conducted the draft as of yet. I use a fairly straight forward formula to determine a players worth given their average score and years of service. The players "worth" is calculated using: (1.5 * AvgScore) + (Years Played*(AvgScore/10)). If you think this might be better if tweaked, please let me know. Interesting note that I noticed after the players were assigned that Quebec ends up with a coach I had when I played juniors (Ken Smith). I was always amazed that such a whisper of a man could have played in the NHL. My plan is to run through all of the old seasons (up until expansion in 66-67) during the next few weeks. I think we all are in agreement that drafting every player for every year would take too much time and have too little return. I was musing that a solution might be to put something in place to let you select 5-10 players that you would like to have on your team that came into the league between 45 and 66. This secret list would be consulted each year and if one or more owners had the person on their list, the player would get assigned to one of them randomly. For example, I am sure none of us would exclude Gordie Howe from our lists. If you have any ideas, reply here.
