Thanks for summarizing this Chris and I agree Scott, we will want to get this hammered out and added as an addendum to the rule book. I am going to further distill Chris' post below here and add my thoughts.
Protected Lists
* Clubs will have two options for players they wish to protect in the Expansion Draft:
a) Seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender b) Eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender
* Any player who has played less than 100 GHL games (counting both regular season and playoffs at the end of the 16-17 season are excempt from the draft
Player Exposure Requirements
* All clubs must meet the following minimum requirements regarding players exposed for selection in the Expansion Draft:
* All clubs must Expose 2 skaters (forwards or D-men) who have played in at least 50 GHL games, and 1G who have played in at 20 GHL games played
* Players with fortitudes of 3 or lower cannot be exposed.
* Players on books with no cards cannot be exposed.
Modified the NHL a bit but I think this is fair and pretty straightforward for our purposes.

100 games is quite a few games and I think that owners may opt to not play a guy who is borderline in order to protect him. The NHL rules is 2 years so could we say something like any player having 3 carded years would have to be protected?

So is it 50 or 100 games played?

Where did 50 come from, I don't think we should put this as a number of games played, it opens up the potential of convolution as I mentioned above.

So is it 50 or 100 games played? Good point, I think these numbers need to match since we are going off games played rather than years of pro experience.

Where did 50 come from, I don't think we should put this as a number of games played, it opens up the potential of convolution as I mentioned above. 50 came from the guys you have to expose whereas 100 was used for the auto protection. Creates some confusion tho because a guy with 75 is over 50 but already auto protected with the games played model.

It makes no sense to go off games played

At least not for whether a player requires protection or not. For exposure, as a minimum of who must be left unprotected, yes...

Instead of games played we could go a layer having 2 NHL cards the previous 2 years.

GHL games played would be a loophole that would be very easy to exploit. I like 2 NHL cards in 2 years

Just have to be careful with goalie requirement if we go NHL Card only one I'd have to expose is Mrazek which doesn't seem fair I can't protect my only goalie

Good point Dane. I am guessing this means you would need to be sure to land another goalie during FA or pick one up via trade if we went this route

Instead of games played we could go a layer having 2 NHL cards the previous 2 years. Is there a way to know if a player was based off a minor league card other than those who are obvious with really bad cards?
Also, just for clarification, by two previous years you mean that the cards which will come out next year do not count towards the two? So Gostisbehere for example had his first NHL card this year but will have his second NHL card next year. He will be automatically protected correct?

Correct. Ghost will have his second NHL card next year.
Also, in regards to how to tell if a card is AHL based or NHL based you can look at a players ream team name on the cards page. If the team is a city abbreviation, it is NHL, other wise it's based on his AHL card.

So your saying Rust has 2 NHL cards because it has (PIT) on them? Even though he only played 14 games for PIT in the first season.
