Noticed on game preview the referee engine is gone, is that shut off for playoffs?

If it can be switched on ,,,,,,,,, the fact the this first round started already without the Referee factor ....to me means it shouldn’t be started till round 2 when things start fresh again

It wasn't shut off per-se however I had neglected to assign refs to the series and therefore the old E-E-E referees were used. I noticed this after this first night's worth of games had been played but as Joe pointed out, I didn't think it would be fair to introduce them midway through the playoffs.

I didn't think it would be fair to introduce them midway through the playoffs. Oh did you mean you were shutting it down for the entire playoffs? If so I don’t care I’m eliminated but this engine affected seedings and who made the playoffs throughout the season think we should have it affect playoffs especially teams who earned home ice that may get some calls from friendly refs.

especially teams who earned home ice that may get some calls from friendly refs. Just hopefully not 4 powerplays in one overtime period...

Yea you might have benefitted from a guy who didn't call as tight a game like St. Pierre or Furlatt, also a ref with a higher skill might have noticed the dives by NJ.

Hopefully the G-man will take notice of the OT penalties and adjust. The simulation should 'kick back' calls in OT to something like 75% less than what would normally be called in regulation. Let the boys play.

Regarding OT penalties, Unfortunately, I can't make any adjustments to the engine now in the middle of the playoffs. I will certainly look to make adjustments during the off season regarding refs swallowing their whistles in playoff OT and we can discuss as a league how much we think penalties should be overlooked in these situations.
In regards to the ref assignments, I decided against turning them on for all of the playoffs this year. Here is the reason. As with everything else I want their to be transparency with the league as I have a team in the league as well. In order for refs to be assigned there needs to be a method to allow everyone who wants to see, or at least a subset of witnesses to view, the assignments. A partial commish could have assigned a referee to my series with Cornwall that had a (-) minus homer rating. That in theory would benefit my team as if my series with Cornwall would have gone 7 games, 4 of those games Cornwall would have been disadvantaged. Even after I have been knocked out I don't want owners to think that an assignment was made to screw a certain team.
Next year we will have something in place to assign the best refs (highest ref rating regardless of homer rating) that all can see.
Also, one note. The simulation already has a home ice advantage mechanism built in that is part and parcel distinctly different then any advantages the ref homer rating would provide.

we don't want to get carried away and basically give all home teams something like a 15% total advantage, for example.
