Starting this fall the Greytower Football League will begin play. This league will be very much like the hockey league where player cards are generated for each player and these cards are used in a simulation to determine game outcomes and aggregate stats. Each team will play a 16 game regular season which will be followed by playoffs.
The simulator is a computerized version of the Pro Football Fantasm game from 1989. I have been spending quite a bit of time computerizing this board/card game to be the core engine for the league. Teams can use either 4-3 or 3-4 schemas. The first year we will be using the 36 Offensive play cards as they exist but in subsequent years we may very well modify and add to these to better reflect the current pro football game. The interesting thing about the game is that I used it as my inspiration to build the hockey simulation we use from scratch.

I have also ported the board/card game to table top simulator meaning you we will have the option of playing another player head to head if you so desire prior to the computer running the games for you. My hope is that especially for playoffs, we will have teams interested in squaring off in this manner to determine game outcomes.

In conjunction with this I have also had the develop code to generate player cards. I used the only set of cards I had for the game (1989 season) as a base to determine how best to calculate the cards and am very happy with the results. We will have about 1600 players to draw from each year.

Because the initial player dispersion will happen via an eight round snake draft (draft order to be determined once most/all of the teams are fleshed out owner wise) and be composed of general positional players for each team:
Quarterbacks
Running Backs
Wide Receivers
Tight Ends
Offensive Line
Defensive Line
Linebackers
Defensive Backs
(Team Kicker/Punter combinations will be handled as part of a separate 9th round draft with an inverse order from round 1)
After initial player dispersion, teams will be able to make trades before cutting down to the final roster size of 53 players. This will be a keeper league and each team will have the ability to retain a certain number of their players based upon their success the previous year. In subsequent years new talent will be held via a draft much like our hickey league.

On the homepage you will see that a test draft page is up on there as well. If you follow the central scouting button it will allow you to select team/position combinations via the drop down lists and also click the check box to show an overall team/genpos rating score for desired positions.
A football forum has been created that is very similar to our hockey one. Those who will be participating will go to the site and create an account.
The forum location is here:

Other than some cross participation, this additional league will have no impact on any of the GHL related activities/timelines.
Please feel free to check out the homepage and let me know if you are interested in grabbing a franchise. I wanted to open it up to you guys in the hockey league first before fully opening it up and advertising it on football boards. Given the fact that standard fantasy football may not be here come the start of Fall, interest in any type of football league should be elevated.
