Only had a 3rd rounder high this year but I liked a few mid-range picks:
Bahl -defenseman NJ NHL - huge kid and I think he's going to stick and get big boi mins.
Dorofeyev - Forward. Plays a little soft and dangles 100% but everyone is saying his skill set is just sick.
Cuylle - Forward NYR - huge power forward who draws comparisons to Wilson. Obviously my pool with the 2 guys above were gone by my pick so I stuck with this guy who I had in my 'first group'.
Thoughts on these guys? Others?

Dorofeyev - one of the guys I would have picked with my 3rd rounder. Seems to be boom or bust type and currently trending up. I liked the pick.
Bahl - could see him being a strong bottom 6 defenseman that translates well to the G but hadn’t looked at him because didn’t have a ton of time this year.
Cuylle - I’ve been burned by too many power forwards here in the G so didn’t really look into him
Anything I get after the 2nd round is usually just a bonus though since we have at least one or more extra years to see their trajectory and the likelihood of seeing them turn into something is not great. This year is a little different but as I tend to overvalue prospects already, particularly my own, I have tempered my expectations for a lot of these later round guys.

I think more later round picks this year have a better shot at making the NHL than in any past years. The talent left is much better than it ever has been that I remember.

A great pick by Hershey, was between him and Ranta for me 2 picks earlier and I had Evangelista ranked higher actually

What is the deal with these players names with the strange characters? The player Hamilton just selected and Sven Baertschi are 2 I've noticed

7 players taken that weren't on my scouting report. Jarventie, Chromiak, Kierstad, Teasdale, Hunt, Crookshank & Cotton. Betters my odds of my next target being there, yet leaves me feeling I may have missed at least one of these guys. Still really hoping that neither Seattle or Halifax steal my pick... what are the odds?

Great pick by Baltimore at #132, a player with that much skill should not be available this deep.

Of the players I listed, I'm more confident in Kolyachonok than everyone there as far as talent goes. Kierstad is likely closer to NHL time but that certainly isn't a criteria in prospect ranking.

I agree on Kolyachonok, like i said it was 50/50 between him and Koepke for me. Kolya just happens to be pretty buried in the Florida system, whereas Koepke was not, meaning I think Koepke gets the better shot at an NHL roster eventually. While wait times may differ on a lot of these guys I wouldnt say that everyone feels the same about using it in their drafting formula. I think we see it all the time here where a low ceiling player gets picked up early because he already has a card or because hes already starting to see time on a 4th line somewhere despite the fact that we know he's maxed out. If you're talking pure prospect ranking though I would likely agree with you. Essentially we've seen Kierstad, he's gotten NHL playing time but its likely that he's already at or near his ceiling at 23, but he just left the NCAA so theres still a bit of growth I'm sure. I will say my first couple years here I definitely overvalued guys getting NHL time at the end of the season thinking it was indicative of a prospect being more ready than they were. I've learned to temper those expectations a bit. Often it seems to be more of a way to entice the prospect out of other leagues.

No doubt, Jon. I had Suter ranked at #119 in my rankings but selected him at #35 simply because he was there, will be on my roster and actually saw one depth chart where he was listed as Chicago's #1 center. Now, that doesn't mean my expectations for him are that high because I know Toews will be the #1 center. But they will likely split Toews & Kane and if there is a shot that Suter plays with Kane, the reward certainly out weighs the risk. Even if Suter plays bottom 6, he's a value at 900k. Worst case, they don't even re-sign him and he heads back across the pond and I drop him. But there is no doubt in my mind that he was not the top prospect at that pick, or even close to it.

Congrats to Nathen on completing his first GHL draft. And some very solid picks by the FNG. A definite upgrade in management for the Beavers!
