Stampede News- In a somewhat expected announcement, Stampede players Rinne and Weber have announced that they will both be playing in their final GHL contest. Bringing Rinne up for the GHL Final as a show of respect by the Stampede was an indication. Weber has enjoyed a fantastic final season.
Weber had this to say to media following a closed door locker room chat with teammates, coaching staff and higher ups in the Stampede organization. “I knew this day would come, but never imagined that the last game would be such a high stakes prolific game. On one hand I wanted to skate out and just be done with it all, but a Game 7 in the GHL Finals!!! Damn, this makes me feel like a rookie in my first game! I’m psyched and amped! I have energy like I haven’t had in years. I told the boys, Let’s get this! We play and dream of this day and these moments our entire lives. We walk together forever! Win or Lose! But, it’s a lot sweeter and the walk is a lot nicer WINNING! Let’s goooo!”
Rinne echoed those sentiments and had this to add. “You know, I was in the minors all season long. I knew my role was to mentor Huska and Montembeault before he was moved. Also, to put pressure on Demko and Samsanov. We picked up Dreidger at the deadline. But I knew, actually GM Frey was clear and we knew where I stood. It was my last season in the GHL. I am so honored and happy that they called me up for this opportunity. It makes my career come full circle and gives me great pride. Humble, but proud. I told the boys, play tonight like you will never have the chance to play again. Your brothers are depending on you to play your roles and play it to perfection. I am proud of you! You deserve this! Take it to them and leave it all out there!”
Suffolk skates tonight in Alaska for Game 7, with emotions in check. Ready to get down to business and play as close to perfection as possible. “We expect the boys to be clear in their decisions, heavy on the forecheck and tight possession of the puck. High energy and unemotional!!! Taking care of business until the final whistle blows! “ That was GM Frey’s words to us as he headed to morning skate with the team.
