Ooooh, I was under the impression it was 25% of the total available cap I had to spend...this is much better.

OK, I need clarification here...
I will use my own team as the example, since I know it somewhat well ( barring any future trades of personel...lol ):
Ok, so Suffolk has 13.73 mil of Cap Space.
I was testing the new RFA procedure, and bid on a Generic Player to check it all out...I noticed something.....At the Top of the Roster, it says that "Suffolk has 13.73 Million in Cap Space and 18 Players Needed."
QUESTION: 1- Do I need 18 Players?
QUESTION: 2- Why ONLY 18 Players, I thought we were fielding 50 man rosters when all was said and done? Suffolk currently has 25 men signed, including the draftees. Another 18 would yield 43.

I'll take a quick stab at this...
This year, all teams will have selected:
50 total players
45 players that the OWNER chooses and 5 players in the AHL that are "call-ups" and we don't own.
Our GAME time roster of dressed players is still only 25

Ok, that would make sense...because I actually bid on 2 other players, so the system is in suspense until I am awarded them...that would give me 45 players in total.
Thanks Phil...

This is the minimum in which case 5 players will be added as emergency call ups and not owned by the team. Each team has the option of owning the max (50) in which case, no emergency call ups will be added.

Why are 5 emergency call ups needed if we have 45 guys on our roster?

All teams WILL have 50 players exactly.
You can choose to only sign 45 IF you WISH
and then there will be 5 players assigned to help out - but not your actual property.
OR ,you can sign and pay for all 50.
5 players can be "wiggle room".

Just don't see what we would need them for, we're going to want to call up or own players, not the 5 other guys anyway

I see what you mean......could be some odd thing or skill needed though...
A certain position. Goalie. Someone with a 9 hitting score. Face off of 8....something like that.

Just don't see what we would need them for, we're going to want to call up or own players, not the 5 other guys anyway Scott, The core reason is that I want teams to be deep enough that if/when injuries occur, I want a replacement to be available either moved into the lineup by the coach or the engine of the coach hadn't done so without intervention from the league. Last year I had to run every nights worth of games manually and my plan is to have the engine setup to kickoff automatically each night. In order to do this, the teams need to be fleshed out. Glenn

So the engine needs 50 players assigned? I'm sorry guys I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand. I see no reason to ever actually use one of these 5 players due to the fact that I have 20 other guys who belong to me to chose from.

I see no reason to ever actually use one of these 5 players due to the fact that I have 20 other guys who belong to me to chose from. The core reason is depth of rosters for so I don't have to kickoff the days games manually. An ancillary reason is that there may be a minor league that uses these players to play a minor league season in conjunction with our FHL season. These 5 players are going to be fringe AHL caliber players anyways so yeah they shouldn't need to be called up.
