The NHL has set their cap at $69 million, what affect, if any will that have on our cap figure?

If I'm remembering correctly, I don't think this will change our cap. 2012-13 NHL cap: $70.2 million 2013-14 NHL cap: $64.3 million 2014-15 NHL cap: $69 million This past season we didn't drop our cap $5 mil like the NHL did, we kept using the cap from 12-13.

The cap will remain unchanged this year. Ours is set at 74M

Just out of curiosity Glenn, is that $74 million before or after the allowance for prospects is added in?

The $74 million includes the extra cap we are given for minor leaguers. $69 or so for pro team and $5 for minors (although you can really split it however you want). Prospects don't count towards the cap at all.. I know you know that but I figure some of the new guys may be reading this stuff.

Oh my. quite a few teams are already up against the CAP ! Really? It looks like Chicago is low man and they still have 7.3M at their disposal.

7 million may not even buy ONE stud player and may only get ya 2 middling guys.
I see Ellias out there and Scott only having 8 million.
It's all relative to teams needs I guess, but I barely feel like I can spend big with 21 million. Under 10 seems scary...to me.

Ah, but looks are deceiving...Elias was in Colorado via a deadline deal and New York still has another $6.2 mil in additional cap available after retainment of Kovalchuk...plus maybe a waiver???

Just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the cap rules...just a reminder that there is still around $3.5 million in cap showing on your books that you don't really have and that every team has to have 45 players. It looks like some teams could be in a little trouble and hopefully have a plan...Hartford with 31 players and just over $4 million in cap jumps out at me but others look to be tight against the cap as well. A few teams are actually over the cap right now when you factor out the $3.5 million.
