How can he waive him he was signed last year what happened to the two year must keep rule I believe that is only if the player was over 30. Can't recall to be honest though. I don't have time to research. Joe, if you have a link please post it here. Or actually I think the term must be at least 2 years if over 6M. Many folks have signed for 2 years and then used the waiver in year 2. I did so with Alzner last year and I think Colorado did the same with Jagr.

I think this, like many things, was discussed but never agreed to/implemented. If you can find somewhere where this was decided upon please post link here.

Glenn I don’t remember where the link is but some yrs back Hamilton signed a few players for big money over 6 mil and then waived one the next year guys got in an uproar and it was decided that any player signed for over 6 mil must #1 be signed for at least two seasons and #2 can’t be waived till after the second full season is completed if signed for more then two yrs

I recall part one because I had the write the code to handle it. I remember their were discussions about #2 but don't recall it ever being formally adopted or coded. I think you may be conflating each of these issues in your remembrance of them.

The 'spirit' of the Rule was to close the loophole for those 'magnificent 1 year wonder deals' and at least make the newly signed UFA be kept for 2 years.
That said, the overriding 'trump card' mechanic is the use of single waiver (with penalty) per season/ per team.
Nothing was ever mentioned about age/ over 30, but the one waiver with penalty can be used on them, or ANY player for that matter.

The smart way to make this even more of a penalty would be to waterfall the cost to waive a guy thusly:
After 1 year 50% yearly salary After 2 years 35% of yearly salary After 3 years 25% etc

that said, to make it more realistic, like Joe suggests, we should have it read:
"Any UFA signed for 6 Million or more SHALL be kept by the signing team for at least two (02) years. No trading or waiving of said player shall be possible.

That won t happen as it would require too much additional development coding for much too little of a return
