Since Glenn is getting close to finishing up the Original Six era of the Old Timers league, I was curious as to what the plans were as far as the expansion teams that get added after that point. I don't know how many owners have expressed interest, but is there a system as to who gets the first wave of expansion teams, and who comes thereafter? Will there be a WHA equivalent, or will we use our own narrative as far as how new teams come to be? The one odd question I have is how the league will do the 1978-79 season. The NHL went down by one team due to the Barons/North Stars merger, but then added the 4 WHA teams a season later. I'm guessing one owner will have to just sit out a year and then resume Old Timers League after that point?
Not that this is a pressing matter or anything, but I was curious (and well-caffeinated) this morning.

Good points Jed.
For the 1st expansion (67-68) the 6 new members will be drafting players from the roster of the 6 expansion teams which means that the original 6 teams will lose a few of the players that were on the original 6 team prior to expansion. I am not sure what the NHL did but we will give the new expansion teams picks 1-6 in the draft and the original 6 teams will flesh out the 7-12 order based on finish.
I fadn't thought about the contraction that occurred in the 78-79 season. I think you had a good idea of maybe the owner sitting out a year, which in reality will be a few weeks until they get their franchise back the following year (much like the Browns did int he NFL). We have our 6 new members for the old timers in 67-68. These are :
Adirondack Baltimore Colorado (New England Whalers originally) Hartford (Wilmington Reds originally) Syracuse Toronto (Toronto Pats originally)

One week of old timers games kicks off each evening at 8:00PM EST. We will continue to use this hyper schedule of games to baseline and verify engine changes.
Once I complete the massage of the players and contracts from 67-68 to 09-10, I will put a link out to the players who will be available to the 6 new teams as part of the inaugural OT expansion draft.

I think two become available in 1972 (NHL Vancouver and Buffalo).
I apologize if some of you guys have already been selected in a past thread. This has taken a little longer then I woudl have liked to get it up and going. If so, let me know and I can see what can be done.

And these six teams have been selected already, correct? when is the next opportunity to grab an old-timers franchise? If I recall correctly: '67 +6 to 12 We're almost to this point, the next expansion is in '70 '70 +2 '72 +2 '74 +2 to 18 '78 -1 to 17 '79 +4 to 21 (I suspect this is the one GMs are waiting on to join the old timers league and have a shot at drafting 99) That's it until '91.

Will owners like Colorado, myself, and others be allowed to craft our histories in any way? Obviously since Colorado was once New England it would just look odd if I was Hartford, then Wilmington, and then Hartford again (unless you chose to interpret New England as Springfield MA since the WHA-era Whalers played a lot of games there as well). Nothing against Wilmington (assuming DE), I actually have some good memories of that place so in a way there is something fun about having a connection to it through this league. However, I'd be interested in the idea of my franchise having a more colorful history before finding its home in Hartford.
