I'm not sure if you saw my comments but since I don't see a problem, why would I offer a solution?

Do the signings before the draft

He wants to know the actual timeline I see it as this: 1. Draft 2. RFA signing 3. UFA REsigning 4. 1st phase UFA
If that’s incorrect or not pinned down then we need to ensure we have the right process before we just jump in and have something like this happen.
Team A does not tender an UFA to a deal prior to UFA. Team B signs player for below asking price. Team A decided to tender offer to UFA this making team Bs offer null and void

2021 I trade Malkin for a 2021 draft pick I then resign Boeser, Chabot, Debrincat,Georgiev, Guhle, Jost, Keller in RFA. I no longer have money to resign Malkin Does league forcibly drop my players? Does the trade get reversed even if I picked? Do we allow overage in a sign and trade? Do we put the 10.2 mil on the books at time of trade so they can't over spend?
My question was how do we handle a situation like the above where I trade a yet unsigned player for a consumable product (draft pick) and there is the potential I can't sign the player to do cap mismanagement.
I agree with scott that UFA REsignings happening before draft would make it easier, or putting the 10.2 mil on the books at the time of the trade could also prevent overspending and make sure GM can actually afford the sign and trade.

Oh, sorry, I thought it was obvious that we had to do UFA re-signings before UFA since the players that aren't kept in that process are the ones becoming UFA's. Once a player hits UFA, the previous team has no rights to him and the bidding wars begin for you guys

LMAO... and it begins. I really don't understand why a manager would spend 75 fp to sign a guy and then trade him. You have an opportunity to re-sign a high value player and this pretty much throws that ot the window. Great deal for the team acquiring the UFA, doesn't have to overspend in the market, but for the owning team, I think the value has to be extreme. In Hamilton's case, giving up 3 picks and spending 75 fp, nope, makes no sense for pick #31. Hamilton has no other UFA's but, still, I don't see the value in being a copy cat league here.

It’s a draft with loads of first round talent (comparatively) that is quickly hitting a cliff. I think it’s a good deal on Hamilton’s behalf. What else are you gunna use those FPs on? I feel like the talent drop off from a B prospect (pick#31) to C (mid 2nd) and C-/D+ (3rd) plus the other two assets make this a good deal for Hamilton. To each their own though.
Edit: As in Whose Line Is It Anyway, the grades are made up and my opinion doesn’t matter

You're right, our opinions don't matter but that's never stopped me. I guess I just don't see the value in this for any team owning the UFA rights

Seeing how I started all this, I wanted to clarify...It was hard enough typing with my sausage fingers on my cellphone...
I read a lot, someone said " I don't see a problem with a team signing their UFA and then trading them for 1st Rd Pk's" or yadda yadda...
The whole idea of keeping a UFA going into the end of the season/playoffs in the GHL is because that team is a playoff contending team and you need that player to help your run for the cup. IF, you decide to keep that UFA and Not Trade him, that is where your decision is, and that is your reward.
But, now, there is a new rule to allow the rich teams to keep these UFA's, and remain rich. OR, they can trade them BEFORE the UFA process begins to another team/GM AND......here's the kicker.....REMAIN A RICH TEAM. They remain rich because, they had the player for the season, the playoffs, and then traded him for another kitty of wonderfulness...
Why do teams/GM's keep giving these heavily loaded teams more and more ammo to keep bashing our friggin heads in? All this rule does, is help those teams/GM's. Obviously, it helps others...BUT, only if you have been a playoff performing team and have been earning FP's!!!! The Chicago's, Calgary's and Hartford's of this league will NEVER be able to retain one of their prized UFA's!!! Sip on that for a while...Only the Rich teams will!!!
PS...I won't include myself, because I have squandered my FP's on trades.

I'm wondering how this is different from the NHL. Who gets the prize free agents? Rich teams. IF, and that's a very big if in this league, teams would build through the draft, the so called poor teams would become rich. On a side note, that doesn't mean drafting your whole team in one draft, the downfall of that is obvious. Now, I don't agree that Chicago is poor, yes the cupboards are a little bare but $66m 6 in cap is a nice little luxury. I thought Hartford won a cup...and Calgary is building a nice franchise for what he was given in expansion. Sure, they don't have much for FP but if they don't spend them like my drunken buddies on shore leave, as Glenn says, they'd have them for this purpose. It's like you guys are arguing with liberal logic. "We spent all our money, we need a bailout"!

Liberal Logic! You're calling the wrong American a Liberal, Trust me!!! We cannot be 100% like the NHL Scott. We don't have an arbitrary person negotiating. BUT, we have a GM/Owner who is also the Agent! We don't have Millionaire owners paying bonuses upfront to land a UFA. The New Rule has Flaws and should be fixed before it goes forward.
You can't allow a Team/GM to retain a UFA and in the same moment trade him. NOT an 11 Million dollar one.
And Yes Scott, there are a few shitty teams that have recently picked up some FP's...That still does not answer how Chicago, Calgary, St Paul and Hartford's can keep their UFA's and/or remain competitive. Chicago has 66M in cap, yes...But that doesn't help him to resign HIS OWN UFA for 75 FP's!! He doesnt have FP's because his team has been abysmal for quite some time.
It's NOT about Chicago...It takes the bottom teams years to acquire enough points to retain a UFA. Is that like the NHL?

No, it's not. I'm a middle of the road franchise, I've been to the conference finals and I've sucked, bad. I don't have a ton of fp's because I'm fairly active in the trade market, but I understand that if I'm gonna need those points to sign a guy I want to keep (the same option every other GM has) then I'm either gonna have to be less active for a year and retain those points or get my trade partners to foot the fp portion of the trade. No, it's not realistic that a free agent is going to sign a deal and then get traded but something very similar to this does happen. Would it feel better to everyone if we were allowed to trade a UFA's rights and then let the other acquiring team solely negotiate with them ala Kevin Hayes. Either way the player is not hitting the market.

Stop giving up 1st for everything Hey now, I’m a firm believer that you can trade all your first round picks, especially to me.
