It was tough to pass on him and ultimately might regret it. I had kind of figured he'd be going in the top 3 and I was assuming I'd be picking between Zegras and Stützle.

I actually had Zegras ranked #1 but assumed Kaprizov would go #1. I knew Milwaukee was taking Knight.

I had Zegras at 1 as well with Stutzle 2 and Lafreniere 3rd.

Scott, this is all good. His pick didn't come up until late last night. This is the reason we have the early draft opening to allow for situations like this to allow these bigger early round decisions to be fully thought out.
Even if he would have decided late last night the draft would have been held up at the latest 2 picks later when I would have been up.
Communication is the key here. I would hope that Lance letting us know what was up, as well as my posting about going to bed, would help keep the median owner Blood Pressure down.

My comment had nothing to do with Lance. Just the process as a whole. I completely understand why we do the open window and intend to take full advantage of such.

Just so there is no confusion. The open window is a very good idea. If anyone is confused by my comments, nothing is personal toward any one GM here. I wrote an article explaining my draft outlook from many years of experience with this process. It is completely my own expectations that leave me feeling frustrated through this event. I am not in any way trying to put pressure on anyone. If you haven't read my post titled The Draft. Give it a read, it's pretty good stuff.

I would have made my pick by now but Brian swooped in and dropped a bomb me. I have some other guys but if Caufield was still available, I would have picked him by now... Pick coming soon unless I receive an offer in the next 5 or 10 minutes that I can't turn down...
