I’m curious now that I see a NMC next to Barbashev and Korpisalo. Not that I’m looking to trade them, but I was under the impression that those were only for if another team made a bid on them and I retained. There’s nothing under the “bidding on your own players” section in the rule book. Should they have a NMC or no?

8) Players that are retained must not be traded or cut for at least 1 year. You technically retained them

You technically retained them Wouldn’t that mean anyone who is an RFA and signs a new contract with their team is retained as well? So because I signed my OWN players earlier, that means I retained them? Doesn’t make sense. I resigned my players, not retained. Retained is what I did with Georgiev. Resigned is what I did with Barbashev and Korpisalo. If they got an offer, different story. That would be retained. They didn’t. That’s resigned, and nothing in the rule book staying they can’t be moved.

Retain Peterson
Perfect example why Chatley was smart to bid on own RFA. Now gonna have to pay him 2.04 a year for 4 years instead of 1.8 mil for those 4 years.

And in reference to Dane, it’s all a gamble. If you put a $1.8 mil bid on him this round then you’d be on the hook to match at $2.95 mil. You’d be paying over $2.7 a year for 4 years.

It’s probably smarter to bid on your players who are coming off a bridge deal than it is bidding on players coming off their ELC. Less of a gamble and less money at risk.

Only because another owner bid on Peterson. If not, you would have been able to retain at the price you wanted and not had him on a NMC for the year.

Less of a gamble and less money at risk. I was just thinking the same thing. Guys coming off a bridge will be UFA's after this contract expires so they might be a bigger gamble in RFA contract wise for the owning team and therefore a smarter own bid. Coming off ELC's, the owning team gets a bigger discount or the option to bridge.
