4/12/2011 meeting
Attending:
Glenn - Philly Phil -Cornwall Scott - NYA Brenden - Johnstown Dan - Toronto
Glenn, Phil and Scott had mics. Other guys may want to field test their comps for working mic systems.
2 new owners !! Chris (Suffolk) got his friend Justin to take over the Edmonton franchise and the interweb produced another GM for N.E - The Whale ! Good stuff boys.
We are expanding the active player pool from @ 800 players to 1600-1800 players - all AHL, EHL players ect with full stat cards reflecting AHL stats that realisticaly translate into FHL stats. This huge list of all players available for the draft WILL be listed so that we can all plan for it and won't have to hunt down and target players on our own. All players must beat least age 25 and over.
** The 25 year break point deals with the draft eligible players. If a player is 25 or under and currently not on a team's roster (emergency recalls do not count) he will be available in the upcoming draft. Unassigned players over the age of 25 will be available in the free agent signing portion of the off season. **
We will be going to automated play nex season. The computer will run the games at a set time. Much easier on all. Afternoon games still applicable.
In addition to the 5-7 draft picks that most teams have, there will be an additional 5-10 selections that GM's can use to stock thier minor league team. Eventually, we will all have a complete minor league team with accurate stats that will again, translate well to the FHL - no more basic 10 offense 10 defense. There will be a wide variety of players will skill sets available. So, most of the minor league team will be available to call up at any time. There will still be some players that belong to the minor league team and not your personal FHL team property but these will still be available as well as call ups just like now.
**Clarification on player acquisition during the off season The draft will happen first. As Phil notes, most teams will have around 5 picks (some more, some less based on trades)
Free Agency comes next. At the completion of each players initial contract (1-5 years for our original player acquisitions and 1-3 years for our upcoming rookie entry contracts), a player will become a restricted free agent. Other teams can bid on these players however at bids end, the team will have the right to either retain the player by matching a certain percent of the highest teams bid (lets say 66% is the figure decided on) or allowing the player to go to the other team in which case the losing team would receive compensation in the form of draft picks. The more money spent on luring the player away, the higher the picks compensation package will be. If for some reason no teams bid on the player, the league will determine his salary demands based on a formula using his most recent player card (the card that will be used for the upcoming season). The owner can either accept the salary demands or release the player without penalty at which point he would become an UFA.
At the end of a players second contract, the player is an unrestricted free agent and can sign with the highest bidding team without penalty to his new team.
Third stage will be randomly assigning 1 AHL team to each GM (similar to the emergency call up team assignments we did this year. Each GM will get to pick 5 unsigned players from this AHL team to add to their farm system. These will most likely be middle of the road/journeymen AHL players as the better players will go in the draft and free agency.
The final stage will be a random assignment of an additional 15 players from the remaining AHL and ECHL talent pool. These players will be in your system and on your minor league team but will not be property of you (just like the emergency call up players were in year 1). At the end of the season, these 15 players will be released back into the pool for consideration in the following year's draft/free agency process. ***
There will be "value" for heavy weights and enforcers and agitators next season. Intimidation will be higlighted and will have a TWO way swing - hurting the other team if it is filled with timid players as well as HELPING your team become bolder at the same time. Can this occur from a bench postion ? I hope so.
** yes, having a tough guy dressed will satisfy the sheriff requirements**
Revamped player cards for all current players are going to be listed soon for everyone's perusal - they jsutwon't be migrated onto the existing engine just yet. Exciting stuff. Player cards will again, include translated stats from NHL as well as AHL and EHL.
**If a player played 25 games int he NHL and 50 games in the AHL, the new player rating engine will create both a NHL and AHL player card. The FHL card will be based upon a compilation of both cards where in this case 33% (25/75) of the NHL figures would be used and 66% (50/75) of the AHL stats would be used to create a composite card.**
Fortitude wil be more accurate next year. No more goalies getting hurt just because they didn't play much . Injuries will occurr to those who actually did not play for a reason last year.
** Piggybacking off of my last clarification, Fortitude will be based on an aggregate number of games played last year. Therefore, unless a player missed time to injury, they shouldn't be dropping like flies as they have at some points this year
Goalies will he handled slightly differently. We saw many backups go down this year with injury just because they didn't get into a decent number of NHL games last year. Aside from the total games, regardless of league, being used to calculate fortitude, backup goalies will suffer penalties in performance from being over played. This will be a little more realistic with less injuries to the backups.
**
There will be a "perculator" that will allow for "major events" that will have a big effect on the game - a hit or fight may just rachet up the entire rest of the game. There is also talk of a "hate meter" for rivalries.
**The percolator will carry from game to game and season to season as well. Games with high intensity will have more hits and most likely more fights. Also, unless you dress player's appropriately, your skilled guys will be more open to being run at (injury) and will play smaller. **
Not covered was tired players and back to back games and over playing goalies.
Waiver wires and waivers were discussed and are the same as detailed in previous threads on this forum. Nothing new here.
Draft order is weighted with random numbers by ping pong - again, nothing new. This was covered in a previous thread.
** As posted earlier this is done, results to be coming shortly via video upload**
There will be a draft - ball selection video to be posted when the actual draft order is done. This will occur soon ,I would think as the NHL had theirs today.
Meeting concluded @ 8:45pm
If I forgot anything, I'll update this thread and I'm sure Glenn will post here as well.
Good Hockey !
