Stu PiDasso reporting from The Coral in Suffolk County Long Island:
After a closed door practice this morning we caught up with Stampede Captain Auston Matthews who spoke briefly with us about the upcoming series with Syracuse and last season's disappointing playoff exit..."Yeah, last year was very disappointing. We had a strong club last year. We might have looked ahead too quickly and paid for it dearly. We're staying focused, we're definitely not taking anything for granted! We're not taking Syracuse lightly at all. We've seen them twice late here in the season and faired well, but that was regular season hockey. Come playoffs, you've got to raise your game to the next level. We're ready!"
Alternate Captain Darnell Nurse stopped in with Stu PiDasso as well..."I'm ready, We're ready. Let's get down to business! One game at a time! We're staying focused on the task at hand - Syracuse! Game 1! Let's go!
It was all business from this reporters standpoint. Everyone on the ice was jovial yet focused on Game 1 with Syracuse. Each Stampeder seemed focused and poised for playoff hockey. Thursday was an off ice day for the team as they reviewed film and receive assignments. On ice will commence Friday.
GM Frey added "We're staying focused. The boys are feeling good. We talked about last season's exit ad nauseam throughout the season. No need to go there! They know what needs to be done. They know what can happen if they take a team like Syracuse, or any team, too lightly. The season starts this weekend. Time for playoff hockey. No excuses! Just play...Play HARD!"
There you have it...Just play the game...But play it as if there's no tomorrow! Go Stampede! Go Stampede Go!
