I would like to propose that we get closer to the RFA process in the NHL. Our compensation is far too restrictive for all levels, other than maybe RFA III. I know we discussed the 4 1sts as being something we didn't like due to the length of the compensation, and that's fine, we could still use the 2-year compensation at the highest salary level, but being more in line with the NHL would make our RFA process much better in my opinion. Now that we have Prospects, we are closer to simulating the NHL rule of not being able to offer sheet players on ELC's so it's time we align our compensation as well.
AAV Compensation
$1 - $1,511,701 - None $1,5111,701 - $2,290,457 - 1 3rd-round pick $2,290,457 - $4,580,917 - 1 2nd-round pick $4,580,917 - $6,871,374 - 1 1st-round pick, 1 3rd-round pick $6,871,374 - $9,161,834 - 1 1st-round pick, 1 2nd-round pick, 1 3rd-round pick $9,161,834 - $11,452,294 - 2 1st-round picks, 1 2nd-round pick, 1 3rd-round pick $11,452,294 or more - 4 1st-round picks

Too many RFAs are signed too cheaply (25% discount on top of everything else) allowing certain teams to stockpile too many cheap players.

Too many RFAs are signed too cheaply (25% discount on top of everything else) allowing certain teams to stockpile too many cheap players. I think the 25% discount is way too high and maybe adjusting that down along with compensation would be more realistic. The negative aspect I see to this, however, is something I've mentioned before. Our salary cap is considerably lower than the NHL's. Yes, I realize it's actually higher, but apples to apples we are extremely lower. NHL teams have 88 million currently to sign 23 players (3.8 million per) whereas we are at 90.5 million for a minimum of 45 (2 million per) I'm not sure where the balance lays, but Matt's comment above is true. I know for a fact that both Pettersson and Pastrnak signed for 5.25 coming off ELC's. Now, they will undoubtedly be paid much higher than that in their 3rd contracts but teams are getting way too team friendly deals on RFA's for sure
