I haven't done this before and didn't even give much consideration to stats ect, because you get the error code if you try to look at Prospect stats while on your team page.
Now...
I see the cards for each Prospect by looking for them individually in the player card drop down, and some of mine are damn near usable.
Can we play em? Load em onto our team pages?
and if it's a goalie, then we have to be at the exact 5 Goalie mark, I would think...
Thoughts?

I have pondered this as well. When you weigh this out, however, the extra year of prospect status is far more valuable than beginning the players ELC for a very low card valuable (damn near usable). The reason I came to this conclusion was because, in most cases, a deeper delve into player cards unearthed very low values in many key areas of the player card, i.e. stamina, fortitude, etc. I'm not sure if the league would allow this option, but I feel in most cases, it would not benefit the team opting to do so. I also have a couple players which I could possibly roster, but I would elect to leave them as prospects in every case.

Bump. Need this answered by Glenn.
I am pretty sure I want to burn a year of eligibility for at least 1 prospect and play him this season as his card is just that good

I vote "Negative"...I'm using the Hampus Lindholm scenario I had several years ago. I would have used him, but couldn't, and he wasn't exactly a stud...but I had to wait until his eligibility made him a Pro and that was when his Draft Contract was over and he was needing/asking for a hefty raise before he ever played (was even eligible to play) in the GHL. He priced me out of being able to retain him after that season. Hence, why I had to trade him.
For ex Phil...If you use your prospect ahead of his player card availability, and his contract amount is TEAM favorable, then you're gaming the system/taking advantage. If said prospect, has an even better year BEFORE his player card maturity, you're going to be able to sign that player at a very favorable TEAM Cornwall deal. He needs to be protected by his agent and the GHLPA...
Currently, the only players eligible to be used/gamed, are those with a Minor's contract, whom must be given a Pro contract after having been used to play in the GHL season on their minor contract.

There is no provision at this time to allow owners the ability to make a player a prospect that doesn't qualify for non prospect status.
I suggest rolling the discussions to allow this (perhaps at a nominal FP cost) into a broader discussion about the cost of retaining rights to prospects when they stay on a teams books for 5 or 6 years after making the move to Europe or never panning out in the NHL/AHL. In these cases we could add a mandatory number of years for these prospects to remain as prospects before they would be automatically lose their prospect status.
This broader discussion would also include RFAs that guys are holding on to the rights to for an extended period of time.
