Nothing has ever been mentioned as far as I know about a salary cap floor, in the NHL teams have to spend a certain amount of $ to fall within a cap floor and I think that we should also mandate some sort of minimum salary cap rule, not just have a ceiling. And yes, I bring it up because I see it as a potential issue, enough said.

I don't see what the problem is. I should have plenty of cap this year and my team should be fine. Why should I have to waste cap?

Cap floor for the NHL is usually about 16 million below the ceiling. You'd be fine then Ian if even instituted a floor.

After my trades go through and the bonus from last year is added, I wouldn't be surprised if I have $30+ mil in cap though

First of all, IF it was implemented, everyone has to reach the floor, not just Halifax and it's a rule in the NHL for a reason.

I agree there should be a floor, just was using Halifax as an example as he asked a question.

I really don't think it matters that much, the cap floor is mostly to keep the nhlpa happy to make sure players will get paid...don't care either way but seems dumb to have a temporary bonus then saying you have to spend it.
Just seems doing this will be a lose lose for everyone, Halifax will bid crazy amounts on any decent UFAs to get to the floor with more 1 year contracts...thought everyone was complaining and trying to get away from that. Plus Id be worried spending cap I really don't have(our cap bonuses) since next year it could all go away

So basically you are upset that I will have a lot of cap, that's what I was getting at. Like Dane said, you can't reward teams with bonus cap only to be told it has to be spent, makes no sense. Trying to change the rules because some teams have a lot of cap compared to you is pretty laughable. Doubt you would bring it up if it was your team in this position.

Well, as it stands Ian can still bid players/RFA/UFA up anyhow...my real concern for having any floor/ceiling is so that a GM doesn't sign players to crazy contracts OR not sign players to be competitive, and then bail out of the league.
It's basically insurance/assurance for Glenn and all of us. If we can see engagement, we don't need to worry. Ian can do whatever he wants. IF he's buying low salaried guys to gobble up some UFA or RFA, then you have no one to blame but yourselves for making those trades. Maybe a word of caution for future trades with Halifax....IFFFF this turns out to be the case. Worry about that when and if that road comes!!!!

If he wants to load up on UFA, he's made the moves to give himself that flexibility. It takes two to tango.
That being said, go take a look at Halifax's 2014 RFA's and you tell me what he is planning on doing with his cap space.
