The best defensemen are those that play both sides of the puck. Weber, Doughty, Suter for sure. Roman Josi leads the league in +/-, not an all star this year? I'm not tearing down the team in any way, or at least not trying to. It's an awesome team, without a doubt. It's just not necessarily built on the best players in the GHL this season. There are a lot of guys there that are the best and deserving of an all star appearance, I was trying to take anything away from that, just pointing out a couple guys, Domingue, the most glaring in my opinion who is certainly not deserving. Wheres Trouba?

May the best team WIN....pick YOUR best guys and try to win!
Winning the game gets you and your conference mates 5fps AND relieves you of the possibility of the curse.

Eliminates the subjectivity of any wrongdoing. If the players with better cards are underperforming than maybe its not wise to select them as there may be some intrinsic variables that are causing their poor play and only negatively affectively your all star team. Select your players with caution.

IMO, Pick the Best guys to WIN the game. Like Chris says, there may be intrinsic reasons/variables as to why guys who have great GHL cards are underperforming. BUT, that's what the GM who is creating the team MUST decide.
Is there a PK Subban on a team that is not having a PK Subban like year? Why is it so? Is it because the rest of the team is bad? Would he be able to perform typical PK Subban like numbers on a team of All-Stars?
or
Do you select guys that are not like a PK Subban whom are having fantastic years in the GHL and are deserving of a spot on the team? ie: Vincent Trocheck
I believe that is why the NHL does a All-Star weekend! It gets to reward all the regular elite players and the overachieving players to the Fans. However, we cannot do this...So, the effort should be to ice the BEST team to WIN. Because, that is the bottom line for OUR League. We don't represent the NHL.
Those are my cold hard facts ( biased opinionated facts, that is... )
PS...keeping in mind, you are selecting at least one player from each team.

If both GM's see it that way then that's fine. But these two teams were picked from a different perspective. Ergo, the Campbell is bringing a knife to a gun fight.
That being the case, we will reward the winning conference with the same FP that they received last year.

Question: are guys getting in based on cards or in season performance? Because if it was card-based, there are better goalies than Hank to have chosen from. My sense is that the best way to have a competitive virtual even such as this, is to have the decision weigh both card values and in-season records. A guy with a great card could underperform due to fit/environment. See Getzlaf, Ryan, and how he has performed since leaving Moncton. I think that requires two GMs per conference collaborate to make those decisions.

I wasn't going to announce this, but maybe I should. Since I am friends with Jim as well as sick of our conference losing, I submitted a team roster and quick line up to him for his consideration on picking his all star team. He concurred with about 90% of my picks.
The way I selected the players were:
#1 - their GHL year / stats #2 - coming from a leader point team - Quebec gets 2-3 slots, Hartford 2, and some other considerations if the GHL team is excellent.
#3 - fan favourite player on a team had @ 3rd most impact - Subban, Weber ect
#4 - GHL card
As you can see, it's heavily weighted for GHL stats but ALSO includes picks for good GHL cards. The teams (mine included) that did not have the big offensive guys were selected to contribute a defenseman - Cornwall, Hershey, NJ, Syracuse.
I the end it's all good. Fun stuff, no matter how you do it.
P.S...so now I have attached myself to the curse by helping Jim.
P.S.S. It's a good thing Cornwall suks this year then, so I really am playing with house money.
Wheres Trouba?
If you're asking me, I have no idea, I didn't pick the team, but I'd say in a nice warm sunny place enjoying a vacation since he wasn't selected

Games not til tomorrow, I'm fine with him resubmitted a roster so everyone feels it's fair. I'm ok with his conference sending him a roster and him giving it the ok also.

Without objection, I think we should award the teams in the winning conference 5 franchise points (I think in the past we only allotted 1 or 2). Hmm I guess Glenn objected. Because a GM who won the right to pick a team picked a team NY didn't like?...makes sense

F points are all 'wacky' now anyway. They used to be damn near spot on and worked to make trades more realistic. Now they are doled out by the bushelfull.
1 point....5 points....meh

So, in essence, Jim appointed Cornwall to select his roster? IMO, if Jim wasn't inclined to table a lineup, or wanted to collaborate that opportunity should go to whoever the next team in the standings would be. That's Hartford, not Cornwall. All Star event should have all star executives as well, should it not?
