Still seeing some games with 40 shots on goal by one team and some players with 16 attempted and 12 actual shots on goal.
Other stats...blocks, penalties ect seem realistic.

Agreed Phil. The shot totals are way too high thus resulting in high goal totals also.

Here's an example of offense being too high valued...
My top three goal scorers:
1. Backstrom - 6 goals on 18 shots - 33% !!!
2. Hendricks - 4 goals on 25 shots
3. Pyorala - 3 goals on 10 shots

A given player is taking too many shots per game. Some are attempting 18 shots a game and with some being blocked, are still averaged 12 shots on goal per game and on top of that....the percentage of them going in, is too high as well. IMO.
This lends credence to my suspicion that the offensive stats and resulting offensive gameplay are weighted much higher than defensive stats.
I drafted what is most likely the highest defense related team - even the forwards, Shot blocking of 9 and 10. Four of the highest rated defensemen in the league and a goalie that should be in the top 6 or 8 with save percentage and wins.
The teams that are wining games are vacant of solid defense and are getting wins purely on offense and goals. Defense is looking like a distant afterthought with this engine.

I didn't look at rosters of the teams on the top of the standings, but it looks like they haven't given up to many goals. I'm 4-1-1 and I think that my team is more defensive than offensive, at least the player ratings for my team seem like that.

Do you mean that guys with lower penalty rankings are getting a higher than expected amount of penalties versus heavy penalty minute guys? I can assure you that defense is weighted evenly with offense when comparing players because the heart of the engine in a nut shell compares both the off and def player, and off and def players on the ice in determining the outcome of plays. The sliding 2 dimensional array goes left for defensive attributes and right for offensive to determine results. I am going to be crunching some numbers to review PP and SH goals and also shots on goal per game to do some tweaking. I for one think the engine is pretty accurate given that we just started running with it. |

I don't know dude.....but with the high athletic points and tech points, I would expect the upper tier goalies to be posting shut-outs and 1 goal games just about every other game.
and
With Pronger and Weaver - the top 2 rated defensemen....I expected plus 8 and no PPG against and it turns out they are both nothing but Marc Eaton and Richard Park.

I will review the cold hard facts sometime early this week to review each teams average off and def scores. A casual review of your roster shows that 3/5 of your team (15 players) are players earning 600k or less (most of them 500k minimum). having so many fringe players might be a contributing factor to your team's horrid start. i did take note that at first glance, at least the few random players of yours that I clicked on, they did have better than average defensive scores. We will see what the actual numbers yield when I do the complete analysis. In regards to stud goalies having shut outs and giving up an average of only 1 goal the other games, would lead to these goalies having sub 1.00 GAA. Check the NHL stats and note that under 2 is outstanding, under1 is unheard of. I will report the findings on the site for all to see. In general, it seems that the shots are a little high yet however I want to prove that out by crunching the numbers first. |

1. Top tier goalie - top 5 or 6 - Check.
2. ALL solid Defensemen - AVG of 41. Shot block 9.....the top 2 in the league!
3. Solid centermen - Avg def of 35 all the way through. Faceoffs / hits / blocked shots all way above league average.
4. Wingers - STILL high defensive ratings / hitting / shot blocking. Don't be fooled by the odd auction style draft method of the league and the resulting salaries as a method of judging a players worth.
I "gamed" your system as presented on paper for stats and selected a defensive juggernaut. If it fails, then it's not my fault. Look at the system.
