Everyone should try to get one friend into the league to stay.
I recruited Mike - Montreal and I'm pretty proud how he worked out. Definitely good for the league.
Find a friend that's gonna stick. Take initiative and personally FIND someone that will be a good fit. They are out there.
NYA recruited NJ right? That's turned out to be a good call, especially this year as his team started out on top of the league only to lose a ton of games mid season and is now making a comeback to the big show! Scotts OTHER 2 guys recruited....not so good, heh.

I'd say Johnstown is doing pretty damn good. Milwaukee has a good hockey mind, just trying to bring him out of the shadows a little but I talk to him quite a bit and he's fine, just needs a little push every now and then. Edmonton, meh, can't win 'em all. Over the years I've brought in around 7 or 8 owners, but with NJ, those are the 4 active guys.

Chris is 57?? Working on retirement? I’m 43 and retired!!!!
I don’t think we ever get 100 percent compliance and enthusiasm in this league. It’s not designed for instant success. It’s a hard sell and only the die hards will join us. Maybe we need a different approach at recruiting. We are a nation of 330 million people. I’m sure we can find 32 guys or girls who are balls to the wall

Yeah, working on my 2nd pension. ...dabbling in some investments buying Silver, Gold and Crypto's, running my poker league (52+ members), Managing a Professional Hockey team LOL, working on a 3rd career as a Semi-Pro/Pro Poker player, Volunteering/Board Member for Contractors For Kids/A Children's Charity...I'm a little busy. If any of you all are interested...Look up "Contractors For Kids"....Donate!!! Or, God forbid, you should know of someone in the Long Island area ( LI Only for now ) that is in NEED of assistance. We ALWAYS come thru for people in need!!! We are in the midst of becoming a nationwide organization. Our name is a little misleading. We NOT only offer contracting needs. We are predominantly a CASH/Monetary assistance Charity. We pay mortgages, rent, car payments, Dr Bills, etc... Here's a little photo op of your's truly and my miniscule poker record on the circuit....I'm a new member of the pro ranks...lol pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=661375

Thoughts for conversation What if we add incentives for a new owner. Lets be frank, who wants to join a league with a team that sucks? The learning curve takes awhile (see Detroit) before you get a hang of things and build a winning team. A owner new or old might go years before they make the playoffs. I don't know how we can do this but maybe collectively we can come up with some ideas and dangle a carrot for our new owners. Here’s my .02 Ther

Here’s my .02 There’s a ton of free online fantasy hockey sites where there’s no learning curve. We are ‘niche ‘, in that there is an investment required in terms of learning our very nuanced policies and procedures as well as a small entry fee. I am not in favour of a 5 dollar buy in for newbies. Here’s why. My sister breeds purebred Rottweilers. If she discounted the price, serious Rottie enthusiasts would be less likely to take her seriously. Because the only people that want a discount on a dog with a deadly bite force are the kind who won’t train the dog to reach its potential. The analogy here is that the only person who would not pay the full fee is the Chicago kind who reply with “I don’t care “ when it’s important to show up. I suggest that we run a free online tournament a couple times a year and let guys enjoy the thrill of the GHL experience. The hook is the game itself not the discount. Our sim is better than the garden variety free experience but you don’t realize that until you understand the rules. Free tournament play could provide both the excitement and the opportunity to learn the rules and attract new owners. Id also make successful tournament play a prerequisite to new ownership. And Id maybe make it come with an incentive ie automatically receiving the first overall pick if you are taking over a team/expansion, etc or perhaps a wad of free FP to get you going . I think the best promotion of the game is the game itself and tournament play with the top team winning the opportunity to manage a team. My commitment to making something like this possible will be to head up league media, provide write ups etc and I’d be happy to assist anyone with an interest in anything promotional from podcasting to highlight reels to whatever else, including social media. Any owners open to an on air chat to just toss any ideas around, I am down. This Sim could become something much larger with multiple leagues running simultaneously with profit potential. I know that is not the goal— a great experience is the goal— but it has the inherent DNA to make profitability the organic result. I d love to participate in a think tank to explore how we can pool energies and make Glenn’s creation even greater.

I like the idea of a Champions league / FA Cup style tournament during the season
sometimes out of nowhere a team who wont make the playoffs could make some noise
these games can be scheduled during play with no stoppage in the season

It could mean that new owners have at least a cursory understanding of how things run which would address the probability of dropouts.

I think Edmonton's status was questioned due to a lack of involvement, the guy still hasn't been on the forum site since last September.

Edmonton's GM was fired and a newly hired GM is taking the reigns. Chicago is the only team available at the moment.
