Yes we have an INNER CIRCLE but Glenn has final say…

This rule change is absolutely a good thing. It is something that will work in the owner's favors. It was discussed publicly only. My only point is that aspects of it were questioned and not explicitly layed out. I'm still unsure if there will be a minimum AHL games played aspect or if prospects can potentially play an entire AHL career and still be on our rosters as prospects. It is what it is now, so we'll just figure it out as we go.

That’s my issue with it as well. There’s questions/unknowns that should’ve been answered before the rule was put into effect.
I do think if this is the case though, and we don’t have an AHL type league, it renders the AHL type players useless and there’s probably no need to allow a team to have more than 30 skaters and 4 goalies. That doesn’t include the now would be prospects.

If prospects aren't on the books now until they play 20 NHL games, and presumably then they'll have a useable GHL card, do we really need to have as big of a roster as we do? I feel like we've made this from an entire organization (with having a big league team and minor leaguers) to just an NHL team with prospects in the pipeline (consider these like being CHL or college players). If that's the case, there's no need for the minor league players to fill out these entire organization rosters anymore, and just need NHL only players with with a roster size of 30ish for when prospects hit the book and also depth players.

I'm starting to figure out what my plans are this offseason and I'm curious as where we stand with this proposed rule change.

Me too. I have no idea what a prospect is at the moment

Prospects 20/10 NHL GP instead of TOTGP
Ok, to just be clear. That's 20 NHL games played for skaters and 10.for goalies.
And those games have to be played in one season or total career?

Correct. 20 for skaters, 10 for goalies. Career in total.

Is there an AHL total games as well or will those players be considered prospects for their entire career? What about players who aren't drafted in this league but are signed as prospect free agents?

Prospect designation only applies to drafted players and yes, if they muddle in the AHL they will remain prospects (useless prospects at that)

Is this retroactive? I have players that I drafted that were no longer considered prospects under the old rules, but would be considered prospects under the new rules.

I don't believe so, I recall Glenn mentioning that there would be no grandfathered players

As I go through my team looking toward next season, I have a question not previously asked that I recall. Concerning the 'grandfathering' of prospects, will current prospects follow the old rules or be rolled in under the new rules?... and if they will follow the old rules, how would we possibly track this?

All current prospects, including guys being drafted this year who are prospects will be prospects until they have played the new number of games in the NHL 20/10.
Because as some have mentioned that there could be a glut of non usable players (because they end up being career minor leaguers/always prospects and non available for use) we may need to put a limit as to the number of total games played as well. I would anticipate this number of games to be in the 200 or so range which would equate to 2-3 years of significant time played in the AHL.
