Too many penalties being called?

Is this in reference to the regular season or playoffs?

Is this in reference to the regular season or playoffs? Both...many years now.

For what it's worth, I did take a look at the stats Glenn sent me before last year's awards ballots went out and there were 27083 PIM in the GHL 2022-23 season. Since the cards for that season are based on the 2021-22 NHL season, I compared them with the NHL stats for that year. There were 22574 PIM in the NHL that year.

13 PP - 4 PP in one particular Semi Final series....Slight Advantage! Can't wait to see what happens when I hit the road! Pretty even in 3 other Semi Final series....No Advantage!

Personally, I'm not griping about the regular season.
But, to have these 4 Officials officiating in the playoffs, is disgusting. There shouldn't be any favoritism at this point.
AND, yes, we can ASSUME that there is favoritism on the part of the officials, BECAUSE it states so on their "Values."
Even though it hasn't helped me at all to this point. Baltimore is a damn good team, but they do not need the extra help being afforded them.

I just can't believe that...that data cannot be correct. Given that the numbers show something close to a 20% increase in GHL PIM compared to the NHL PIM for the year the cards were generated from, this is a surprising response.

Well, we have 4 owners saying yes....too many penalties / minutes in the GHL.

As I said in the beginning of the playoffs, in the GHL you get the same referee for that series as in the NHL they rotate their referees, As I looked up the Boston-Florida series in all three games they had all different referees. Referees should be rotated in the GHL in the playoffs to give different ratings

5/13/24
Pitt Vs Ham
Pitt 9 PP (Home Team) Ham 1 PP
Referee: Chris Rooney : +3 Skill, +3 Pens, +1 Homer

Actually, that's a bad example.
Rooney called more penalties than 'usual' hence his plus 3 rating
He called more for the home team - plus 1, also bears out
Now I would have like to have seen 5 Pittsburgh PP to 1 Hamilton PP or thereabouts, instead of 9 to 1. That would have been 'NHL accurate' IMO.
I still think that we should dial back penalties by about 40%

Phil, I think you misread...
It wasn't 5 to 1 for Pitt....it was 9 to 1....
5 to 1, although seems lopsided, it is still tolerable and a possibility in todays NHL. a 9 to 1 advantage seems highly unlikely and would indicate that a Coach lost control of his team and less likely in todays NHL. It happens too often in the GHL.
