John, what are you recommending. The reason I ask is because I joined this league to get away from fantasy leagues. I hate fantasy, it sucks. My point is that it could take teams 5 years, as you pointed out to turn things around in the NHL and that is what we're trying to simulate. I like the sim aspect and I definitely wouldn't want to see this league become too gamy. I think Detroit is on the right track right now, workout getting too detailed, your roster looks pretty good come next year and holding your picks this season, something you haven't done in the past, is in my opinion very smart on your part. The draft is very valuable tool in building a franchise.

Yea I'm with Scott this is a sim think Years out. You mentioned injured guys who are useless...No you need to think of them as people to acquire for the long term. If I have a guy on a down year or two I never look to sell them. shit I had shit grabner cards and he will finally be worth it next year but I didn't panic and cut him or trade him for a 4th because I had hope he'd rebound.
Best advice I can give for a rebuild is just to look at Alaska he moved everyone who wasn't in long term plans and had good cards for picks and prospects but didn't sell his slumping guys last year. He cleared cap space for short term fixes while his prospect will develop. It's not hard just gotta think like a GM

I will agree with John's point on the three year card average, I do like that idea, just not sure on the feasibility on the card generator end of it.

Guys this is not about me, but since I've struggled i will be the voice. Stop telling me how great this league is when we can't hold or get new owners. All I'm saying is some things need to be examined.

The reason we can't get/ keep owners is mainly lack of advertising. No one can find us / know what we are.
Secondly, the scale and scope of the league with all the salary cap nuances ect, turn a lot of people off.
The sim is fine.
The player cards are fine (for the most part)
The mechanics are fine.
To say that people aren't joining because 'the cards ain't right' or that 'it takes too long to build a champion team' is getting really silly - to keep hearing that over and over.
I took Pittsburgh almost all the way (as far as Glenn would let me) on a cobbled together team with ZERO trades. Let me say that again...ZERO trades.
Gotta stop the whining.

All I'm saying is some things need to be examined. The voice of negativity? What needs to be changed specifically? Offer solutions...the reason I keep saying that the league is great is because it is. I never said it was perfect, but it is, without a doubt, great!

I'm also a fan of the 'multiple card year or average of all years played' proposal. Would be very accurate and do away with the 'one bad year in NHL = bad year in GHL"

If you are shit in the NHL for a season you should be shit in the GHL for a season. We already have a 3 year average for injured players which is why Elias on my team isn't useless this year.

voice of negativity? no voice of reality....This is not the nhl its a sim and needs to be more like one...But keep wearing your rose colored glasses and things will be just fine Scotty.

I think the three year card average would mess things up quite a bit considering a lot of guys in the NHL might only ever have one good year. Averaging everything seems like it would bring a lot of guys down, just something to think about though.

Sorry boys I have been out of the loop the last few weeks. My mother in law passed away a few weeks ago and I have been OOO the last few days with some nasty bug that is going around.
I am whole heartedly opposed to allowing an existing owner to drop his team to claim another one. The only way I could see this working is if we always had one league run team that owners would have the ability to swap their current clunker with the league team but even this would have to be fully thought through to identify the good and the bad.
I think it has been articulated in this thread that we know the league isn't perfect but I don't think it would be better if we instituted rules to force parity on the league. Again, I know I am old school given the length of my teeth however this type of social justice plays about as well with me here as it does when I see the millenials clammering for their safe spaces.
It is well documented how quickly a franchise can be turned around. Joe hit the nail on the head that a GM needs to honestly evaluate his team and determine if he is indeed a piece or 2 away from a serious run or if he should be in rebuild mode. If the later, hold on to your prospects and draft picks and get more by trading away your older guys with good cards. Also I think it is wise if you want to build a contender fast focus on one aspect of the game. Eithe rlook to become a dominant defensive team with great D and solid goaltending (the Moncton elixir) and win those 2-1 games or load up on the offensive side and try to win via 7-6 shootouts.

condolences on your loss king glenn, figured my argument would be shot down as usual. Not going for a rise out of any one just stating facts, If a owner like me is getting bored with this league maybe someone should listen. As you can see there has been sooooo much participation this season. Wake up everyone, you have 30 soon to be 31 teams and how many truly are plugged in? A very very small amount. FYI I was born in 1978, don't ever need a safe space...But at least since I started this convo I have gotten people involved.....
