As some of you may be aware, I have had a project on the back burner for a while which would digest a game in its entirety and present it in a play by play format where you will see whose on the ice, real time stats, results of each head to head action, puck position, shots, hits, goals, player fatigue, etc. Think of this as the Game Central page on steroids/HGH/Viagra.
The plan is to use this interface as the basis to allow head to head games where coaches would be online with one another and making all of the decisions as to who plays and when. The thought is this game could also be viewed by anyone interested in tuning into the game as well.
I made some significant progress on the alpha version of this program this past weekend. So much progress in fact that I watched the Philly Hartford game last night and found it immensely entertaining even though the current version is fairly rudimentary in nature.
My plan is to continue to work on this as time allows over the next week or 2 and have it in a state where it can be used for the finals. This would take the form of either a YouTube live broadcast or a Twitch session where the contents of my screen will be seen and the game sounds will be heard. Game broadcasts would kickoff around 7:05 and will pretty much run parallel (time wise) with the Game Central page.
If this is something that you might want to check out let me know. I will be looking to do a few test broadcasts to make sure it will work as envisioned prior to the first final game.

Can you give any specifics to the kinds of player decisions referred to in your overview above? Would we be able to pull an ineffective goalie, or alter lines mid-game in an effort to jump start a stagnant offense?
It sounds like you just took this thing to a whole new level, very exciting times! (Hear that prospective owners? Get in while you can!)

You will have complete control of the game including...
Determining when to change lines Changing lines combinations mid game Piecing lines together on the fly Ability to change on the fly at your choosing Line matching (home team) Tough guy double tap (enough said) Putting guy on ice for face off only (scampers off ice when able afterwards) Pull goalie Swap goalies Calling timeout
Those are the biggies right now.

How would these actions effect a game where the team on the other end has a owner who can't make the time to sit in on the game? Or am I getting to meta on this?

Thinking the same thing, would Quebec be fighting for a playoff spot if this was implemented this year and everyone else "played" the game

As long as the computer is still handling the other team and making some kind of response to similar situations I don't see the issue. Will manual line changes significantly alter the outcomes of a game, especially if the computer is optimized to play the best lines?

I would argue that the player sitting down to play the game would have a slight advantage. The mechanics of how these games would be played would have to be hammered out. In general I would think that these games could be played anytime prior to the computer kicking the games off and after each team has played their previous game. An example would be Colorado Plays a game on Saturday night and Hamilton please a game on Sunday night. Both teams are off until Tuesday when their next games are against one another. Following the straw man logic above, their Tuesday game could be played at anytime after 7:05 on Sunday night (after the previous game is done and injuries are tallied) and let's say 6:30 PM EST on Tuesday (1/2 hour before the computer will play the game for you)
While the sim does pick the best available players for a lineup the line changing logic is very basic. If only one person was interested in playing the game, I envision that player playing against the computer head to head.

Will games still be as quick as they are now, approx. 30 minutes? Not sure how interested I am in actually playing games. How much control are we talking? I don't think a huge advantage should be given if one owner is present and the other isn't, or chooses to be a GM and watch.
