Just curious is the stat distribution on a guy without ratings random? Along the same lines maybe we can give a small FP contribution if someone watches and rates a game. If everyone assigned an NHL team to rate and gets a 5 point bonus to do it might have 70-75% of players in NHL rated. Dane, I appreciate that point...but I think it's really an opinionated rating. I would hesitate to think everyone here would be impartial to the ratings. I would be optimistic, but still hesitant. So, I would vote No on this idea.

To me, it would sure be easier to understand if 100 equaled 100, and Zero meant Zero. I didn't realize that I was going to have to learn Mandarin to understand how things work in this league. It's very intimidating to me, to listen to most of you super intels discuss things in this league. Makes people feel like they don't belong. You guys continue to do you, I'll continue to play old school. Just know, that when I say "I like something" it actually means I like something. No wonder you guys NEVER believe me when I say something on this site...you all speak some secret encryption language. Chris, Most things in life are not as absolute as 100/0. Almost everything is made of varying shades of Gray. Another way to look at the way these stats work it is like this. Lets say you and I each have a car. I have a Yugo and you have a Porsche. The base function of the car is to be used to transport us from location A to location B. Now since my top end is probably 80 MPH and yours is 150 MPH, yours, as it is a better card, can get you to your destination quicker. You car has a +70 speed rating. Both are still cars and will do the job, yours just performs better. If we were to measure these in absolute values the only way to do that would be to determine if they will start or not. If yours won't start, even though it is a much better car, it would have a value of 0 and the lowly Yugo would be 100 because it passes the start test.

Fair enough Glenn...I understand your Porsche vs Yugo comp. I'm just not point values are being allocated properly to player cards, mostly because I am not a part of the allocation process ( and trust me, I wouldn't understand it even if I were standing next to you ) and also because we don't see that points breakdown on the cards.
It's like its a scratch off lottery ticket to me. I can see the scratch off ticket. I know that the scratch off ticket has a possible value of $1000 for Life. But I scratch off the ticket and win Zero. BUT, I knew that there was a chance of winning nothing before I played the ticket. That's why I don't buy scratch off's!
Honestly, you're doing a great job!!! I mean that sincerely. I just don't understand all of the processes, and that's fine. I understand hockey. I'm not an analytics guy, as much as I am a psychological guy. I believe that players can do more than they think they can. But that doesn't come into play in our game...actually it does from time to time.
There are players in the NHL who play magnificently because they are used analytically like robots. They achieve dynamically what the coach wants of them. That's why there are players like Wilson. He takes them out of la la land and back down to reality, challenging the analytic portion of the dynamics. That's the psychological aspect that I like.
Just keep on doing the magic that you are doing. I appreciate it. My question was answered. Thank You!!

I perused the GHL stats ( re: Hits specifically ) and the NHL stats for the same. Apparently, the GHL is a lite hitting league.
Matthews and Kane both have Zero hits thru 41 GP. Zero. Although they are not bangers, I would expect slightly, SLIGHTLY better than that.
Only 23 NHL players last season logged ZERO hits for the entire season, and none of them logged more than 10 GP.
The GHL has 40+ Skaters ( and every single Goaltender for obvious reasons )with ZERO hits thus far in the GHL.
Question is: Does Hitting impact OUR sim? I believe it does.
The reason I am asking is that it appears the engine/program may need to be tweaked to closer resemble the NHL stats in this category. Or, please shed the light for me as to why we have so many players without a single hit.
IE: Only two light hitting NHLers ( Spezza- .02 and Cullen- .02 ) actullay have GHL Hits, Spezza-7 and Cullen-5. Matthews actually had .03 in NHL, better than both of these fellas, yet has Zero hits.

Good analysis. Glenn loves to refine the machine, and these kind of comparisons are so interesting.
My question:
Does anyone know how to analyze defensemen assists on powerplays, and how that impacts ratings (or assists on powerplays in general).
Is it likley for a good non-powerplay passer to have a higher passing rating than a regular power play guy? How much do power play achievements matter versus regular time achievements?
Opportunity is indeed related to ability, BUT, very often, there is ability without the coaching to be smart enough to give the requisite opportunity.
Also, if you are on a line with a premier goal scorer, is there any adjustment downward for your passing or shooting skills to compensate? Is Puljarvi really a infinitely better player in Edmonton on the first line, or the same skills with opportunity?
