If Seattle will play in the 2021-22 season, I believe the expansion draft would take place in 2021

If Seattle will play in the 2021-22 season, I believe the expansion draft would take place in 2021 Yup as our schedule mirrors the NHL schedule we will need to expand to 32 to be ready for Seattle's first game in '21-'22.

Except our schedule is technically a year behind for players but games played are based on this years schedule. I really feel like expansion makes sense a year after as then we have the correct player representations for 32 teams rather than 31 teams of players stretched across 32 teams, if that makes sense.

The NHL expansion draft is also held the year before the team actually hits the ice as well and the schedule will match the NHL 32 team schedule. I do see understand the point you're making, however.

That was my point Scott that Jon agreed with we are always a year behind why start our expansion when the nhl does it 25 more players with stats will then be involved in the league making it easier for expansion team to pick how did we do it last time with Calgary ?

I think it was because our schedule mirrors the NHL. If we wait the year we would theoretically have a better pool of unprotected players tho.

I don’t know how the engine works, but I suppose theoretically we could run the previous years schedule in the G again when the NHL plays its expansion schedule.

I think we did fine during the last expansion and we'll be fine this time around. I see no reason to change it. Follow the NHL schedule in both selecting the expansion team and having them enter in the 2021-22 season is my vote

Any thoughts on the location of this expansion team and how it might affect any potential realignment?
Not that I don't like the division that I'm in, but Hartford's NHL team was generally grouped with the likes of Boston, Quebec, Montreal, and Buffalo, it would feel right playing those teams more often. I know that when I was still a kid in CT the Whalers/Bruins games were the big ones, like a battle of New England.

Much like Detroit was moved to the East in the last league re-alignments I can see some similar modifications when we expand as well.
That being said, I think there is something to be said about not doing a complete overhaul either as I like the mostly static nature of the conference/division breakdowns and the history each holds.
