OK, next point of order I believe is determining how draft order will be determined. Since we will not be able to use the NHL draft as our base this year, my tentative plan is to have our own 1st round draft order broadcast via Twitch where we will follow the same rules as the NHL regarding how many spots a team could possibly fall. I also suggest we use a simpler weighting factor so that the bottom 5 teams get 3 ping pong balls each, teams 6-10 from the bottom get 2 and teams 11-15 from the bottom would get 1. I would make sure we would have at least one person virtually witness it while it happens and then also record the proceedings for the league YouTube page. I have already created some basic virtual cards in Tabletop Simulator for the teams participating in the draft lottery this year. The worst 5 teams would get 3 cards, next batch 2 and the best of the non play off teams 1 each. See below. I would like to get everyone locked in dues wise by the end of the month and figure our draft could take place either the 1st or 2nd week in July. If you have a suggestion to modify or even overhaul what I am planning, please post it here so we can discuss it. Thanks, Glenn

I'm not sure that we can't use the NHL this year. I was going to recommend that we wait and see if their model will still work for us. If it doesn't, we can use the above as a plan B. The NHL is holding phase 1 of the lottery on June 26th. As I said, it might be a good idea to watch the NHL lottery, which I always do, and see how it plays out. My understanding is that they will use the 7 non playoff teams and 8 placeholders for the lottery. The only thing I'm not sure of is if one of the placeholders wins a top 3 pick, whether they will announce which place holder won. If not, we can't use the NHL lottery. If they do announce the placeholder, or if the top 7 teams win the 3 lottery spots, we can still use the NHL lottery.

I understand but we can't wait for the results of the NHL draft to determine if it will be used or not (if the bottom 7 teams get spots 1-3). That would mean if a team out of the bottom 7 would win the draft lottery they wouldn't actually win because the cards would need to be used instead and they might be rightly miffed.
I am fine with using the NHL draft but it would need to work for us prior to them conducting the draft and not based on the results of the draft.

A temporary draft order has been entered to facilitate draft testing. Current order is only for testing and will be updated to reflect true draft order once known.

Draft page has been setup now so I am asking all teams to make a test pick. Report any issues you find on the web site issues section below.

You are not understanding my point. It wouldn't be fair to only use the NHL lottery if one of the non bottom 7 teams comes up. By doing that, we would actually be holding 2 draft lotteries where the non bottom 7 teams couldn't win in the first one.

I think it’s been stated somewhere, but how many players are draft eligible this year versus previous seasons?

The best 150 draft able players will still be picked I don’t get the issue do guys feel that in past drafts the 200 free agents draft eligibility players were helpful ?

Yea the top end talent is a little bit lighter this year I have 25 *1st round talents* vs 34 last year.
I think the only thing that will hurt is the 4th/5th rounders are even less likely to pan out this year but this also happens in the NHL. Some years the talent group just isn't as strong, this year NHL GMs will be drafting partially blind as full evaluations of prospects couldn't be completed as seasons ended early. We won't have that problem since we get to see them in AHL/NHL before drafting, instead we have to contend with a shallower pool this year.
Jack Hughes Cale Makar Igor Shesterkin Kaapo Kakko Adam Fox Vitali Kravtsov Kirby Dach Adam Boqvist Morgan Frost Barrett Hayton Noah Dobson
And there are a bunch more but there is plenty of talent and I think this 1st round could be competitive vs any other year. I just wouldn't pit the late 4th/5th against other years and expect it to be similar.

When there are 100-150 less players to pick from then the prospect pool will be significantly worse. This wasn’t argument about changing anything. Some drafts are stronger and some are weaker. I’m trying to evaluate if I should target a mid round pick this year or a late round pick next year.

First off, Dane, could you not post my draft board? I don’t know how you got it but I worked really hard on that. Took my months. I’ll get around to the rest of the draft later.
Secondly, and seriously this time. Joe the problem is we’ll have 30-50 guys be drafted who otherwise wouldn’t be in a normal year. That’s obviously not saying a few won’t make something of themselves but I’m gunna guess there’s gunna be more wasted picks then usual late in the draft. Earlier picks might be more crucial or maybe look to move picks for future ones.

Boys,
Please make your test pick on the draft page if you haven't made one already. This is more for identifying guys who are disengaged and not following the proceedings as much as it is to see if you remember how to draft. This way we can identify and confirm their participation earlier as opposed to later.
Thanks!
