Bottom three teams in the league pick 7, 12, and 9. Congrats to Calgary, but that’s brutal. Brutal, indeed.

Not sure why we drew for every spot instead of just the top 2 or 3 and then move the lottery winners up. That way the worse teams can only fall 3 spots at most. The way we drew, the worse team in the league could pick a low as 16 when the lottery is only supposed to move them down to 4 at the worst, which in this case it did. I think we could still use the same draw Glenn did, just not drop the team into position when they are out of cards. Being out of cards simply means you didn't win the lottery. In actuality, the last 3 teams with cards left would win the lottery. So Calgary, Milwaukee and Edmonton won the lottery and move up to #1, #2 & #3 and the rest fall into inverse order of how they finished. I believe that was actually the way it was meant to work.

This is what Glenn said a few days ago: "We will be doing the same thing we did last year and drawing all 16 spots. I lamented to Baltimore at work that some of the lower placing teams can really get screwed this way but I have been saying all along we will pick all 16 so I am not going to change this late in the game. Hopefully we will never have a need to do our own again but if we do, I think I would lobby for picks 1-3 being drawn via lottery so no team could drop more than 3 spots." While I agree with you and would've preferred it that way also (way less stressful knowing I could only drop to 6th), I see where Glenn is coming from changing it that late.

Yeah boys, I had Monton's pick so I was certainly looking to get a high pick but that's the way the cards played out. This was the same method we used last year and we aren't going to reseed this draft lottery. The results are the the results, for better or worse.
Syracuse was lobbying several years back (before we used the NHL) to utilize a system similar to what his fantasy baseball league used where the draft order was determined based upon finish for non playoff teams but in the inverse order. This means that the team that was the best that didn't make the playoffs would get the number 1 overall with each additional spot taken by the next best finishing team. He pointed out that this system rewards teams for fighting till the end and punishes teams who tanked (and by extension just bad teams as I pointed out) as well.
The method employed last night was the one we used every year that we weren't using the NHL lottery directly. Last nights results were out of the ordinary for sure.

I’m sure it’s out there somewhere, but could somebody post the entire draft order?

I don't believe anyone has assembled the entire draft order yet. I will try and put it together in the morning.

Regarding the entire draft order, was the lottery just for round 1 and the rest of the rounds go by finishing order? Or was the lottery for every round?

This is the potential 2021 draft order (not taking into account the draft lottery) using the NHL rules as follows.
1. The teams that did not qualify for the playoffs the previous season (picks 1–16) 2. The teams that made the playoffs in the previous season but did not win either their division in the regular season or play in the Conference Finals (picks 17–24 up to 28) 3. The teams that won their divisions in the previous season but did not play in the Conference Finals (potentially picks 25–28) 4. The teams that lose in Conference Finals (picks 29 and 30) 5. The team that was the runner-up in the Stanley Cup Finals (pick 31) 6. The team that won the Stanley Cup in the previous season (pick 32)
1. Pittsburgh 2. Washington 3. Oregon 4. Moncton 5. Baltimore 6. Chicago 7. Calgary 8. Milwaukee 9. Hamilton 10. Edmonton 11. Cleveland 12. Hershey 13. Montreal 14. Syracuse 15. New Jersey 16. Quebec 17. St. Paul 18. Seattle 19. Hartford 20. Cornwall 21. Philadelphia 22. Suffolk 23. Detroit 24. Boston 25. Adirondack 26. Toronto 27. Colorado 28. Alaska 29. Johnstown 30. New York 31. Thanks for assembling Scotty. I will mash the draft lottery results on the top (for round 1) and the rest of the rounds will follow this order.
Now, back to the card for me.

Curious, why my pick is 18th despite making it to the second round, and thus before someone pushed out in round one, like Hartford. I’m guessing because of wildcard status/winning %? Is that correct?
