The code surrounding suspension length is being reviewed. I started reviewing a week ago before taking a break but didn't finish.

OK, initial review looks as if calculation were not being done correctly on guys getting injured and missing large amounts of games. I have added some code to spit out the details in the debug files so that I can see exactly what in the code is causing the issue. There is a good chance that the latest 2 20 game+ suspensions will be reduced (most likely halved) as soon as I get to the bottom of the issue.

It seems like the sportsforecaster site finally has their posting of YTD stats fixed as this process has been feeding our process properlly for the past few days.

As playoff time draws near I wanted to make sure guys were aware of how suspensions will be handled around playoff time. I wanted to post this so there are no surprises if a player misses playoff time.
In cases where a suspension would carry past the end of the regular season, additional games for playoff teams will be pro rated on a 3 to 1 game(rounded down) basis. This means if a playoff team has 4 games left and a guy on that team gets suspended for 9 games, he will be suspended for the rest of the regular season and an additional 1 playoff game (5/3= 1.67 rounded down to 1).
If a team does not qualify for the playoffs, or a playoff team is eliminated before the 3:1 ratio would exhaust length of suspension, the balance of the suspension will carry to next year.
Players suspended during the playoffs will have their games calculated on the 3:1 basis. If I get the code updated to support the playoff calculation I will let everyone know. If not, the games suspended will be adjusted manually after the fact.
Also, please be aware that because there are no scheduled playoff games yet, return dates for players suspended past the end of the season will be adjusted once the post season schedule is known.
I have added the above to the bottom of the rulebook for future reference as well.

I made a tweak to the NHL game scraper to handle a slight change that our source site made. This had caused the NHL stats not to populate for a few days on the league site.
On a positive note, they have been much better as of late in getting the stats updated (nightly and YTD) anbd a cursory review indicates that they fixed the goalie shut out issues they were having

It has been brought to the Leagues attention that some teams not in the playoff hunt are fielding a lineup with many of the team's best players sitting on the bench. If you fall into this category and have not been fielding the best team available please update your lineups accordingly for any of your teams remaining games. As a reminder I will point everyone towards the rulebook where the first section deals with GM integrity and potential penalties if members chose to willfully ignore it. gtgfhl.proboards.com/thread/3370/rule-book

One of the biggest drawbacks of determining how accurate the sim was trying to determine validity of player stats while playing on a team that is 95% different than the makeup of the players they played with in the NHL the previous year (the stats used to generate the their cards). The big news/enhancement was the fleshing out of a full test environment to facilitates this and being able to run apple to apple season/player simulations with very believable results.
This new environment allows me to run multiple full NHL seasons (league wide or by individual team) that can be used to grade the players cards/simulations accuracy because multiple NHL seasons can be run and compared against how a player or team did in real life.
I did run 3 full NHL seasons before this year’s cards were released and was very happy with the results produced. Not happy because the Flyers won the cup, happy because the results, when compared against the stats used to generate the cards, were in line with what actually happened. This looked good from both the players and the team’s perspectives.
The test environment will make it easier to troubleshoot any issues that the simulator might have and at the same time prevent any potential enhancements still being tested from being promoted by accident.
Some enhancements I plan to complete/continue work on are referee logic where they shouldn’t be a apt to call a penalty late in the game, especially a playoff game/series. Better physics models on types of shot’s taken and where the puck ends up if a shot goes wide or is deflected. Also, I am working on updating the DVR program to potentially allow owners to either download games to watch locally on the viewer after providing it for download.
When this was discussed after the last game I provided some details related to teams performance and I was happy to see that a team like Boston showed a 15 to 20 point swing in their final team points output (from 6 points below to 20 points or so below) their actual totals over the 3 seasons played. When factoring in the fact that we don’t offer the extra point (we can have games end in ties) we would expected the team point totals to be lower than actual (no extra point given for SO or OTL)
