I honestly think the asking prices for NHL guys seems pretty fair, I haven't looked into AHL guys at all. I'm not sure if you do this already or not, but if not my only suggestion for the future would be to determine an asking price based on the last 3 years cards. Mainly because I don't think NHL GMs would give players huge contracts based off one good season. Maybe something like a 50%, 30%, 20% formula for last 3 years. And maybe that's where bridge deals come in, I haven't really had time to read over everything lately.

The problem I see, is when we have guys coming off their ELC deals, OUR concept is that the players "asking price" is derived from what his CURRENT NHL status is, and how well he did. But in the GHL, our GM's have not had the opportunity for that player to perform to those standards yet, or during his ELC term.
I just dont agree that we should have to pay AHEAD of the players actual performance. Thats just not realistic in my opinion. Obviously, in the NHL players, their agent and the GM's discuss new contracts. A Hampus Lindholm would not request a 7.1 contract per season even after the NHL season he just played. The only league that would pay that money, is the KHL. That 7.1 is more like a Free Agency period offer.
That's my opinion, and I strongly feel that way. I dont think you can find many ELC's that went from their ELC deal to a 7.1 contract, or even asked that much. If you do find one, it will most likely be a NHL League Leader in multiple categories.
I think Ian might be on to something. I'll take it a step further.
Possibly, take that RFA's last three years of Cards, get an Avg for Off/Def. This would become the GM's side, or Arbitration Delivery. Then take the Formula you use to generate a players "Asking Price". From there, maybe we can find a common ground to determine a "Players Worth" and get a contract done.
This would seem more like a real Arbitration hearing, or discussion between two sides. The Players Side and the GM/Organizational side.
How does that sound?

Chris with all due respect we aren't paying them before they performed. GMs in the GHL have an advantage, not a disadvantage, in knowing a players card is going to be like before the season starts. This is a known commodity. Real GMs don't have that fore-knowledge like we do here.
As to Ian's and Chris' suggestion that an average be used the current model will take the average or the last years card values whichever are higher to arrive at an asking price. This reflects a guy coming off of a deal and having a very good season and wanting to be compensating appropriately for it.
On whole, I think the latest iteration, which still needs the AHL stamina issue fixed, reflect pretty closely to what players should be asking.

Only problem I have now is that if we are raising contracts to bring prices closer to the NHL shouldn't we raise the cap. Problem is when an NHL player receives his salary it fills out 4.3% of the roster when a guy in the GHL gets his contract which is now similar to NHL player asking price it only fills out 2% of the roster. If we are now mirroring NHL contracts shouldn't we have 73 mil devoted to 23 players like they do and find a number to account for the other 22-27 players. I would suggest 11,550,000 (3 years of drafted players) and another 3 mil for 12 minor leaguers at 250k. Also do we have an answer on if RFA get 75% of asking price. Don't remember it being that way in the past but wouldn't be opposed to it haha.

As I responded to your post above it is apparent that the mic in on.
To me this falls under the adage of: "if it aint broke, don't fix it". The general consensus is that the prices for NHL players are about where they should be and it doesn't make sense to add extra layers of complexity to come up with a different asking price for one player named Lindholm.
If you think he is asking too much trade him. I am sure the market will be lucrative to land his services.

Asking prices are always gonna be subjective. There will never be a consensus as to a player's 'worth' in this sim or in real life.
There's no way for Glenn to code this - using GHL cards, NHL cards ect ect. I just don't see.
This facet of the sim, like Glenn says, falls under the 'no adjustment' at this time. Some players ask for more, some are a bargain. The shrewd GM will navigate and surmount this.

I find myself agree with Phil on this one, I don't see increasing cap or continuing to adjust RFA prices changing much of anything. If you don't like the price, don't pay it. If you pay up then you obviously think the player is worth it. If this leads you to cap issues then you need to change how you do things and/or reevaluate how you spend.

In regards to Dane's question I think the cap is fine. You can have 25 guys on your pro contracts and 25 guys at 100k (2.5 M if you want). I think we build 3M or so in for these players.
I think the way to address draftees is as was mentioned in a previous thread have it so if they have an AHL card only half their salary hits the cap. This in conjunction with the ability to draft prospects, who don't hit the cap, should mitigate the lions share of the issues.

We do have to 'tighten' up the Draftee - ECL - Bridge contracts and make sure those are more in line.
Also our CAP needs to be made sure it's in line ect with the way we handle minor league players / assignments.
The CAP ceiling and various types of contracts ARE facets we can work on to bring realism.

Sorry to beat a dead horse here I just cannot understand Prince. What am I missing that he is asking more than Tanner Pearson? Princes card this year 68-32 (3 stam), Tanner Pearson this year 78-57 (4 stam), Shane Prince last year 50-36 (9 stam) Tanner Pearson last year 73-41 (4 stam). Only possible thing I can see is the last years stamina. Was shane Princes card of 50-36 an nhl card? For that years card generation he played 72 ahl games and 2 nhl games. Tanner Pearson was only in the NHL for both cards. In term of the NHL prices vs GHL prices that you have been posting, Prince NHL = 850k per year, Pring GHL card= 2.95m pr year. Even with 75% discount of 2.95 hes over twice the cost of his nhl contract sitting at 2.21m. I mean it is what it is but this seems like an anomaly. Especially when comparing to Tanner Pearson.

Theres a bunch of players can compare him to, Im just using Pearson because hes so close to him on that chart. At quick glance Namestnikov is another with similar situation. Better card this year and last with better stam except for last years prince card which should be in ahl category

Good point Chris. This is because of his stamina the year before on his AHL card. I will look to exclude the rankings when a player has old card AHL values and see where people shake out after that.
