Matt, I think Pronger kept getting the 'one LTIR' year after year.
If they have a GHL card = able to be LTIR
If they have NO GHL card due to retirement = Must use a waiver.
The big thing, is all teams get only one LTIR per season, I believe.

Phillips and Clitsome don't have a card due to injury, not retirement. That's the grey area: they didn't retire last offseason, they were on IR all season in the NHL and just retired.

hmmmm....interesting. The season that he doesn't have a GHL card, I would say is when he would have to be waived or else carried full salary.
Prongs was a 'defacto' retirement in the NHL. If we allowed 100K rights retention, in perpetuity, I think this would affect a lot of other guys.

The fact that they were injured all year I believe does allow them to be waived without penalty. If they would have played 1 game and gotten injured and then retired they could not use the injured all year drop. I think the rulebook states this pretty clearly

I think the bolded section below from the rule book would apply: <From GHL Rulebook>Players Under Contract but Without Cards You as a GM are obligated to pay the contract of any player who is under contract for your team until their contract term runs out, they are bought out as per your one buyout allowance per year (with penalty) or they fall into a select grouping below. Here are the reasons that guys have no cards and what can be done with each type of player. Player decides to play in Europe and doesn't have a card. You have the option of either terminating this contract for free or retaining his rights for 100k. (Think Kovalchuk) Player was injured all year (I mean, all year) and doesn't have a card. You have the option of either terminating this contract for free or retaining his rights for 100k. (Think Willie Mitchell this past year)Read more: gtgfhl.proboards.com/thread/3370/rule-book#ixzz4Bla2K5o4

Prongs and Philips are 'defacto' retirements from the NHL. I think we are on slippery ground when we make allowances here in the 'G for that.
I think Glenn used to say "if ya sign em' then ya pay em'" meaning until the Signed contract term is up, you're stuck with them at full price/salary until the end of the contract or a waiver.
In the NHL, when hurt and LTIR, the players union stipulates that the player cannot retire 'hurt' so yeah...we are sticky territory here.

The slippery slope would be to say, "Aww Hell, he only played 2 games before he got hurt, I should be able to ditch him for free." That is a slippery slope. This is binary and well defined: Zero games (check) no card (check) injured all year (check)

Guys,
I have Semin and McArthur with 1 foritudes.
That means, since Semin retired, I can use the waived without penalty rule?
And Clark MacArthur can go on injured reserve?

Question: Weaver is showing as on books no card. His term ends in 2016. Do I need to drop him to free up cap space to use in free agency?
