Once the fortitude is showing you will be able to determine whether he can be put on LTIR, if I am correct it needs to be 2 or lower? I used mine for a goalie last year (he still counts towards your required 5) Yes and no. Players with a maximum fortitude of 2 can be put on LTIR. However, nobody can be placed on LTIR until the season starts. Teams must be cap compliant at the start of the season. Therefore owners cannot use LTIR to get under the cap during the off-season. Yes there is that of course, but once the fortitude numbers are in he at least can plan accordingly.

still confused about 2 things, any sort of input to bring me up to speed would be appreciated. 1. Who from my roster is eligible to be dropped without penalty 2. Although Weaver is on books/no card, he didn't play last year. His contract is also up. Does his salary currently appear on my books?
thanks

Im just going to go ahead and take a stab at this:
MON drops without penalty: 1.Will Acton (inactive in the NHL since 2014-15) 2.Keaton Ellerby (One NHL game ince 2013-14, played in 2014-15) 3. Mike Weaver
MON buys out Jason Labarbera
Never had to calculate a buyout before. If I am understanding the formula as described, with one year left on his contract, the penalty for doing so is 100% of the salary. Can someone confirm for me?

Acton and Weaver are both 'contact up' 2016 - this past year. No worries on drops as both are without penalty (I think their salary is still on the books - your CAP but not for long - no worries. Ellerby played ALL / ENTIRE past season overseas and as such you can either retain his rights for 100K or drop him WITHOUT penalty all good...you're getting the hang! oh..forgot Labarbera. Yes, you must use your single WAIVER on him and will retain some of his contract on your CAP - not much, probably only a few thousand bucks. Glenn is the human calculator and as such, LOVES to calculate this stuff. He'll do it for ya.

Thanks Phil, appreciated... with Matt's good work last year, in conjunction with some of the assets I've acquired, this might just be the year Moncton makes it to the dance. Fingers crossed!

As I understand it then, my best move is to buy out Semin with my one buyout.
Then I should play MacArthur until he gets injured, then put him on LTIR.

I don't think you can put a player on LTIR after he has played but that is how it should work IMO

I don't think you can put a player on LTIR after he has played but that is how it should work IMO Yea think it's because NHL has to be LTIR before season to lose cap hit, If stamkos goes down before deadline don't want to allow teams to trade for a star player with his cap hit
