New guy question: I have Perreault with a Shot % of a 10 out of 10 and is Wisniewski with a Stick Check of 10 out of 10. Does that mean everything Perreault shoots goes in? And nothing gets by Wisniewski? How does the engine work these numbers. Feel free to give the long answer and show your work The core concept behind the engine is man on man battles that occur every pulse (fraction of a second to a few seconds). A shooter who has a shoot pct of 10 has the highest possible base chance to score but there are many, many variables that go into play when head to head matchups are taken into account. 1) Which of the 32 zones is the shot coming from? Tap ins in the crease is the easiest spot to score from and he has the best shot of scoring if he finds himself with the puck and the ability to shoot it from there. Now, even a stone handed stay at home d-man with a shot pct rating of 0 can score from there however his chances just aren't as great. Also getting to the high scoring areas takes offensive skills to either pass or skate the puck into the zone (unless someone is swooping in on a juicy rebound of course) 2) Who is defending against the player. The Shot (not shot pct) rating is used to determine if a player can get a shot off or will shoot from a given spot on the ice. In these checks a random defender is determined based on the spot on the ice and a suitable defensive or neutral skill rating is used to determine the modifier for this. So, lets say a defender with a poke check of 5 is trying to defend against a dangler with a stick handle skill of 8. In this case the dangler would have a +3 advantage if the 8 versus 5 was used only. This +3 would mean 3 adjustment columns to the right (better result chance for the offense) and a random number would be generated to determine row (higher the better for offense) to determine play result. Now these base 8 and 5 are not always used. The fresher a player is (the higher stamina players stay fresher longer and recover from fatigue more quickly) the better chance he has to use his max number in a given check. If a player is fresh, he has a higher chance of rolling an 8 (or whatever his maximum skill value is). The more tired he is, the lower his result will most likely be. So the bottom line is that the skill ranking do not equate at all to % chances of being successful (ie 10 = 100% an d0 = 0%) but they do give you a general indicator of how well a player should do when that skill is used. There are many, many variables that are used and cross referenced to determine the outcome of any given play.

I guess now the next the question would be tell me more about rows? an columns? Also to the 16 zones have a numeric value 1-16 or should they more be labeled A - P? Too much to type. As mentioned prior, I would gladly hold a Talkshoe session on the mechanics but it would take too much valuable time to type everything out so folks could understand it.

Trying to total out my players i keep coming up on less than what the system has on the salary page.. Is it because of Foote who is still a RFA on my team page or is there a player some where i missed?

Is it because of Foote who is still a RFA on my team page or is there a player some where i missed? Not sure but I can certainly check. The proper count should be any player under contract (either major or minor contract) and exclude departing players and prospects. If anyone else notices theirs seems off as well go ahead and post here.

Question. I know for guys signed to minor league deals that haven't played 20 professional games yet (I think that was the magic number) count as prospects and don't count against your cap or your roster. But what about guys signed in the UFA process? If I threw a million dollar bid out there on somebody who hasn't hit that magic number does he become a prospect? Or is he on the books since I signed him as a UFA?

I think its only for drafted players, unless we just haven't retrofitted it to accommodate last years ufa signings. I know I have a couple that would still be considered prospects if that was the case.

Wot's the salary range or....min/max for these 'prospects'.
I have young Watson, Austin signed thru 2013 for $633,750 and he's never played a lick of Pro Hockey (AHL or NHL).
Can we retain his rights for $100,00 and have him remain a prospect ?

Pro hockey, for prospect purposes as well, will include time spent in the ECHL as well.

How many guys can we put in LTIR? Also once they have been declared LTIR and if they get traded can the new owner take them off LTIR? 1 guy can be placed on LTIR and if you do so, he cannot be traded or reactivated that year. You can use the temporary cap space created to bring in players that you might have been otherwise been unable to afford.

any chance we can have our line ups reset so we can start playing with what our lines would look like?

any chance we can have our line ups reset so we can start playing with what our lines would look like? Once FA and contract signing have completed this will be turned on again.
