I'll let Master Glenn answer the complexity of the first questions, I, however, have asked in the past about righties vs. lefties and he said it makes no difference, BUT, imo, and it is only that...it makes hockey sense that a righty playing his dominate side would have better success, especially with positioning. I try to play my defenseman on their dominate sides for that reason. I also use them on their off sides for the powerplay. As I said though, when I posed this same question, I was told it doesn't matter as far as the game engine is concerned, that's my disclaimer and I do this as my personal preference.

Lets just say by chance the nhl plays a 48 game season, will next years cards be tweaked to show stats as if the player played a 82 game season? Sorta like a "projected" year?

I think we were discussing a three year average if the players have been in the league that long 3 year average if there is no season. If partial season, stats will be based on those stats only and will be grossed up to reflect 82 games.

New guy questions:
Range, Hits, and R vs L
What is Range? What's the difference between a 3-5-7 etc. Please use on ice examples.
Range is just one defensive ability that can be used in a function with an offensive player's off or neutral rating to determine the outcome of a play on the ice. These type of statistics (off/def/neutral) are distributed on a bell curve.
Hits. What does the engine do when a hit happens? Is it a change of possession? A lose puck? the puckhander isn't allowed to move forward anymore? What is the most common outcome after a hit is registered.
4 Possible outcomes of a hit attempt. These are ranked in result order from best for the puck holder to worst.
1) played avoided hit 2) player takes hit but keeps the puck 3) player takes hit and the result is a loose puck 4) player takes hit and coughs the puck up.
The better the result of the hittee versus the hitter score, the better the chances of a good result for the hittee.
Sooting Lefty or Right does it matter? Does the engine take into account shooter's illusion or that a fore hand shot is easier to receive from a certain side of the ice depending on the orientation of the shooter and natural disposition for favoring a dominate hand?
as Scott alluded to prior, no impact for the engine in it's present incarnation.

I'm guessing goalies need to play a certain percentage to appear on the stat page or is a set amount of games? There is a dynamic formula that I came up with where a minimum number of games played based on how far into the schedule teams are.
